Paypal for large amounts of money and converting it to another currency?

I've got a decent amount of money in Europe (Euros) and would like to move it to a U.S. banking account (USD). The bank charges a tremendously large some for such a transaction. Is there any way I can lessen this? Perhaps through PayPal?

Just out of curiosity, since you seem to have done your homework, how much does the bank charge for an Europe - US money order?

iirc, paypal charges quite a bit.

Large amount of money... swiss bank account.... What have you done?

Totally off topic but I had an account in Alaska that I needed to open to finance a car while I was stationed there. Well, for a few years after I traded the car I still had about $200 in the account. I used to call it my "off shore" or "overseas" account.
