Never seen or read it...kind of wary about it >_>

Yeah, I just watched it a few days ago on TV. I've always heard OF it, but never ever got around to watching it. I LOVED it, very werid, yet amazing at the same time.

I'm amazed they'd show that on public T.V. - how edited was it?

Ya it must have been so edited to the point of ruining the movie. Unless you live in Canada, they show unedited movies on regular tv all the time here. :p

A clockwork orange was a pretty good movie, albeit very twisted, but I found the last half of the movie to be incredibly boring beyond belief.

I liked that movie. It was very strange. My friends didn't get it, except maybe one.

You will find that FG will agree with you wholeheartedly.

As for me, I haven't seen it completely.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

The book actually has a redeeming ending, Alex actually willing, not forced, to change his life. Which is the whole point of the book.

Kubrick left that ending out, because he adapted it from an American edition of the book. The American edition was actually published, for some years and against the author's will, without the final chapter and with a glossary of nadsat terms.

Oh yes, a bloody great movie. Though nowadays I'll rather read the book... kinda overwatched the movie back in the day.

And the soundtrack, oh my, so great. Lovely old moogs.

Yeah, and that pretty messed up that they published the book that way. I guess they felt people wouldn't like the book with such a "happy" ending.

I was really dissapointed with a Clockwork Orange.

I had of course heard for a long time about how shocking and terrible this film was, so I was expecting something awesome, but it.. wasn't really.

Though I did love the Nadsat.

I agree with Mort. I actually hated it.. I read the book, and it was amazing. I saw the movie.. and this is how I sum it up to my friends:

Yes. Kubrick tends to stick full frontal female nudity in most of his films for no necessary reason whatsoever. Many fans say it's symbolic of something, I just think he was a pervo.

Not at all to my knowledge, it was on at around 12pm on the "Showcase" channel, which after each commercial gave a big 'ol warning of nudity and whats-it-such.

Depends on the channel and the time of the movie going on air. If it's 1 in the afternoon, would you expect the hear Pesci blurting out such loving tid-bits as "mother****er"?

Well, pff, we've got that here in America, too. At night lots of channels have special "uncut" showings of stuff that's usually cut during the day.

But back on topic, that was a freakin' creepy movie.

You know the part where the scientists hold his eyes open with clamps and put droplets in his eyes? Is that the archetype of that or was there something like it before? I've seen it in cartoons like Rocko's Modern Life and The Simpsons and I wasn't sure if it was first done in this movie.

Many people put a big stigma on movies like this sometimes so that when you see it you think it's going to be some big thing. But for people who aren't really bothered by nudity or violence it ends up just playing like any other movie.

For instance, I had heard a lot about American History X before I saw it and thought I was going to be totally shocked, but when I watched it it wasn't appalling at all to me (still a really good movie though).

Sorry about the double post, but I'm too lazy to change it:)

I'm fairly certain that that's where it began. I've seen nothing like it that came before Clockwork Orange.

And the movie isn't as shocking today as it was when it was made. I mean remember how "shocking" Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan were when they came out... now its almost standard in movies, and only after 7 years.

You want shocking? There's a porno named.... Well, take the title of the movie and remove the "L".

Ehh. I disagree. I think it was overdone.. it detracted from the story and the message of the movie. It didn't bother me, per say. But it seemed like that was the focus of the movie, instead of the focus being what this guy was going through mentally, and what was happening to him.

I really find the most shocking part of the movie to be when Alex's principle or probation officer or teacher or whoever that guy is, but its when he hits Alex in the nuts, while Alex is in his underwear. Dirty pool, old man, dirty pool.
