What MMOG do you play?

So far I'm playing WoW and I enjoy it. The only thing is it bugs me that everyone else is nearly the same. I mean what I love is talent points, but I wish there was more specialization, like that. I hate how I can train every skill though and train every tradeskill. I want to be special.

Would EQII or Planetside be worth it for me? SWG?

I really like WoW, but I'm wondering if there might be more out there. So far I think what I like most about WoW is just the atmosphere and style.

I play Ragnarok Online and FFXI.

Ragnarok is really special, you chose your job, and that character is pretty much stuck with it. (There are job change quests, but they take TONS of effort to complete, and are costly, even for the highest level characters.) But you can have up to 5 characters on one server, and there are 4 servers.

FFXI is different, you can change your job quite easily, if you feel like it.

Me and my friend got WoW today and we're gonna share an account....

I play on spirestone mainly. The server is low population-med (some people say high but I have never seen it). It's PST server and it only lags a little, not enough to be noticeable. The good thing is it is a newer server and despite a little more lag is almost completely stable, never crashing. The economy on there is also nice. My ingame names include:

Cheddar
TheNerfedOne

Add them to your friends list when you get the game.

I play both FFXI and SWG. When one gets me down due to insanely hard quests that my LS won't help me with, or I've had enough with grinding projectile pistol barrels, Ill switch to the other.

It works well.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

That would be the 2nd reason WoW makes me feel bad playing it. I don't like gnomes. Evil little footstools they are.

I like to play an MMOG called "real life". It's neat. You can buy and sell stuff, and train for different skills.

Best of all, it's free to play, and it has great graphics too. And the physics engine is AMAZING. :p

Kingdom of Loathing

It's actually incredibly fun. One of my friends got me hooked on it and i'm addicted. I mean any game with attack dodge messages like "he tries to blind you with science, but you dodge like poetry in motion" or equipment such as the Meatloaf Helmet [you feel like a bat out of hell when you wear this, you'd do anything to keep this helmet-- but you won't do that], or areas such as Degrassi Knoll just made me swoon.

Give it a whirl, it's nothing like you've ever played before, i promise.

If you enjoy FPS's but want your time spect playing to actually have persistent meaning (that $15000 or whatever you rack up in CS really means a lot ) try out PlanetSide. It's got great gameplay and the weapons and vehicles have been actively fine-tuned over the years to provide balanced gameplay but not stale fights.

EQ2 is pretty, REALLY pretty. If you enjoy eye-candy and painful (but rewarding because if you're high level it means you really care about your char) exping, EQ2 is for you. The classes are split into 4 main groups, with 6 subclasses in each group, each with pretty unique characteristics. And the tradeskill system is VERY specialized, so if you're a carpenter, you're ONLY a carpenter, and have to pay other folks to make stuff for you, or trade services.

EQ1 is very time intensive, but it's honestly the most "skill-based" of the MMORPGs. At level 70, if you don't know how to manage agro, when to med, when to taunt, when to let-loose all your DPS, you failed and should stop playing. EQ2 in comparison, is just following a pattern of skill/spell hotkeys over and over in a cycle. The established player base and steep learning curve of this game makes me recommend you steer clear (this coming from a 5+ year veteran).

I haven't played SWG enough to give a fair opinion. From what I've seen it's neat and definately worth existing, but I haven't bothered buying it (although it's now part of the SOE all-access pass so I guess I should get it...).

City of Heroes is VERY fun for about a month or 2, but has stale gameplay so has a hard time holding your attention past the fun of making new characters over and over. There's no inventory incentive/development for characters, so it's just a matter of which skills you decided to get as you level up.

Not gonna say anything about WoW, you have it so you know what it's like.

Yea I'm unsubbing from WoW for now and I'm gonna try PS. I'll post once I've had sufficient time with PS. If I want I can always resub to WoW later. I do kind of worry about my health with WoW though. I find myself sitting for 8 hours straight w/o breaks at the pc.

RuneScape!! Everyone hates it but I love it. PKing is so fun. But I don't play anymore. Used to be addicted to it but I'm done with it..Still a great game. I even had members (pay to play) for a bit.

I play an Ultima Online free shard called Felucca Reborn.

If you're seriously gonna try PS I'd advise the following:

Don't play on Emerald server.

Check planetside-universe.com and read up on the various weapons and vehicles each team has to offer. If you like high fire rates, go TR, if you like shotguns and shielding, go NC, and if you like NEAT stuff (hover vehicles, slow projectile energy weapons), go VS. Personally, I love VS, but every person is different.

Log in and find the virtual reality training on your team's sanctuary continent. DO NOT use the offline training, it's a waste of time. In the VR area, you'll get to try all weapons and vehicles.

After that, try and find the certification terminals (in the HART building on your home continent). These let you choose which weapons/vehicles you can use in everyday combat.

If you get frustrated during the learning process, just take a break. The learning curve isn't too steep, but it took me about a week to really get into the game and understand what was going on (I played in beta, but didn't actually get the game 'til 2 years later, and a lot had changed). You'll get spammed with outfit (also known as guilds and clans in other games) membership offers like crazy. Decline them all until you know how to play and you're sure you even want to join one. Most REQUIRE that you use a voice chat program. Squad invites (a temporary 10 man group) are good though. That'll get you experience and fun.

Sometimes things'll get frustrating; you're playing against real people, most of whom are total jerks who use slimeball tactics. If anyone (a teammate or enemy) harrasses you, /ignore them ASAP, and they'll never be a problem again. Remember, that jerk who TKs you gets a heaping helping of grief points and is on their way to a weapon lock, don't give into temptation and kill them for revenge, you'll just hurt yourself.

Right now I am playing WoW. I used to play FFXI... feel kinda bad for quitting now :(

Dor, I'm trying to play it, but my god, it's horrible. It took me 20 minutes just to climb mount noob and equip my disco mask. The poor server is being overloaded. There's about an 80% chance I'll get a "server timed out" message whenever I try to do anything. Whoever programmed it is a noob. Everything you try to do requires a connection to the server. Over and over and over again. Just establishing a connection to the server can take 5 seconds regardless of bandwidth, so having to do it over and over is a very poor design.

I'm a TR guy myself. I think the cycler is the best MA by far and their HA is quite nice. I made it to BR18 CR1 before I stopped playing.. Shortly after they made the changes to the warpgates.

I love it, there are always things to do, and you are almost never bored (except at endgame, but they are working on that)

And...

I SUBSCRIBED TO EQ2!

I am weak.
I also play that, mainly because WoW is so easy.

Yeah, last couple of days there's been hella lag for some reason, the couple weeks i played before this though it's usually been really smooth sailing so i'm not entirely certain what the issue is.

There is a perl script console- based client somebody wrote which is far easier on bandwidth and server connections and suchlike, but you kinda have to be familiar with the game already and it isn't fully functional [eg of course you can't see any pictures, and so the maps you have to know the location names, which isn't bad, but then for instance the quest type dungeons where there are doors or mobs to click on can't really be done so much].

My suggestion is keep trying and hope it clears up again, i know i am waiting for that at least.
Also, I can kill you with my brain.

I'm currently playing World of Warcraft, and before that I was playing Dark Age of Camelot, and before that I was playing EverQuest. I've absolutely loved each one of these games. To me, PvP/RvR is VERY important, and WoW's Battlegrounds update sounds to be great. One of the best aspects of DAoC was the RvR gameplay (even better with the latest expansions). I wish I had the time and could afford to play many MMO's at the same time, but I can only pick one, which is WoW.

I play Alliance on Thunderlord and Horde on Daggerspine.

I got on after the nightly maintenance last night and it was finally working pretty smooth. I advanced to level 3 and did a few quests. It was fun, but I really dislike the notion of "adventures". I ran out all too soon. It's like mocking me, only worse, like it's trying to tell me to go get a life.

This was unnacceptable, so I decided to delve into my first LPMUD. :) It was fun.
