I voted for in Bed, but I really do my best thinking while reading. I just happen to read more in bed than anywhere else. (even though reading in bed is really bad for you)

Kinda depends what you mean by "best thinking."

Just generally thinking is best done anytime I don't have to think about other stuff, too. In other words, I think the most (and perhaps the best) when I'm not trying to think so hard or so much.

That wasn't at all confusing.

I would like to know what the OP has in mind about this subject.

Voted shower. The white noise of the running water aids in my thinking. Oftentimes I will go to the beach and read or whatnot (and look at eye candy >.>) because of similar white noise.

I voted shower. I've been dabbling a bit in creative writing, and most of my best ideas come from the shower, with the toilet being a close second, but honestly, i spend more time in the shower than on the crapper. in bed is up there too, but i stay up pretty late so i'm usually out as soon as i hit the pillow

and stuff
Moo.

When biking or skiing in the forest by myself.

Just the trees sliding past, the soft sounds of the forest, joggers, the gears and chain cranking or the skis slapping and hissing over the snow.

I could navigate the route with my eyes shut, so I just let my mind wander.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

While listening to music.

It's as simple as that, really. Could be anywhere, as long as there's a decent tune in the background.

On the toilet. Its weird, but its true. There have been dozens of times in the past few months when some bit of code was giving me **** at work, and I go to the bathroom, and the moment I close the door, BAM! the solution comes to me.

Im seriously considering moving my desk into the bathroom.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I usually do my best thinking during classes... not thinking about the subject at hand, of course. Second to that, I'd have to say in bed.

Usually when I'm so tired, I'm about to pass out. I sometimes havea hard time remembering the good ideas when I wake up.

Not at the computer, because I'm sitting here and I can't come up with a single place I think well at.

In bed, for some reason I can keep my mind blank for hours, doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing, but as soon as I get in bed I can't stop my thoughts from rampaging through my mind. Keeps me awake for hours :(

Well I'll post mine, I voted for in the shower, because that's usually when I have my deep thoughts. I usually shower between 1 and 2 in the morning, after everyone on my MSN list has gone to bed so I mull over the days events and conversations, I never really get much inspiration on the john or in bed.
2005-03-30, 3:03 PM #32
I voted for in bed, because that's when I'm thinking of EVERYTHING.

I had some of my best AHA! moments when I was running. That was when I came up with a clever (or at least I think so) encryption algorithm for plain text files. I've yet to write it out though. Someday soon.

I voted on the can because let's be honest. Not only is it the cornerstone of civilization, it's also one of the most relaxing places anywhere. I get some good ideas in the shower, in bed, etc., but by far the most on the john.

My best thinking is done not in a place, but at a time. I think of so much stuff when I have other things to do.

For the most part I do my best thinking when I'm in bed before I go to sleep...

I usually don't lie down until I'm insanely tired. So when I get that tired, I'll lie down, then I'll start thinking about something, and figure something out or something... but sadly, then I'll fall asleep, and when I wake up, I won't remember it :( It sucks when it's something kind of important, like something I need to tell someone, or a solution to a problem for a project for school or something... but it usualyl winds up coming back to me randomly within a few days... so long as something's brought up to remind me.
2005-03-30, 9:35 PM #37
Originally shower seemed to be in the lead, but now bed is picking up speed.
Personally, I don't get into bed until I'm about to fall asleep, and I usually don't think much, I may review my day, think of things I'll need to do the next day and try to remember them, but other than that my thoughts in bed are centered around "Why am I not asleep yet?"
I never really considered the white noise of the shower, but that's definitely a big factor, although I've noticed the sound of running water has a calming and depressing effect on me.
I'd like to see some more commentary on WHY people do their best thinking where they do, not just "My brain is dead and I am sleepy and miraculously I have good ideas" Being exhausted should be the least condusive to thought.

I'd vote shower, because I subconsiously plan out my whole day when I take my shower in the morning... going through all the things I'll need to remember.
