Anyone who has been playing WOW for the past few weeks has probably noticed Blizzard's response with the "free days being added to your account", etc. But I thought today's "excuse" message was hilarious:

LOL! In order to reward you for the downtime you suffered, we will be taking the servers down for another three hours. God, if this game wasn't so goddamn good, I'd probably go back to a normal life.
2005-03-30, 12:42 PM #2
I can wait three hours for a free level and a half on all my characters.

That means I'm already up to atleast another 2 levels of rest on my mage.

He's got a full bar for level 25, should be about half for 26. If they're adding another bar and then I'm just going to grind -- OH WAIT I CANNOT PLAY. I don't want more rest, I want more time.

It said a max thingie of rest.. It'll bring it up to 1.5 levels worth of rest. Helps if you read the info and stuff about the game.

I only play about 6-8 hours a week, but I have yet to login and see my server down since the first month.

I play 6-8 hours a day, but I don't know what rest state means. What is it?

When you are in a cap city or an inn, you rest. The longer the rest, the more "rest XP" You get. This is a set amount of XP you can earn at double the pace. A full thingie is a whopping one and a half levels of doubled xp from monsters. Instead of 200 or so, you'd get about 400.

I don't play WoW so I dont know for sure, but I think Gonk and his clan recently killed that Dragon. They were the first to do so on their server.

Onyxia?

Wonder how much it'd give. You know, having to attack it with all max leveled chars (No leveling) and dispersing the XP over 30+ people....

Rest state... IE
SItting down, or "resting"
in an inn, IE hwere you hearth to, or in a major city like IronForge or Stormwind.

And I'm only guessing here, but killing onyxia is prolly divided XP and will be like... maybe a few thousand at best... I"ve never seeb anything except a quest give more than 1000 XP for one thing/kill.

I have so many alts, but only my main will really benefit from this... a level and a half of rest? Good god that's like 100k of free exp. My lvl 20 warlock already has maxed rest, and my low lvl alts won't really benefit.
2005-03-30, 7:45 PM #14
So if I sit in Stormwind for a while I'll get EXP?

You can't kill Onyxia without a raid group, and you don't get XP in raids.

Also, my main character is already level 60, and I've already got rest state up through 61, for whenever they raise the level cap, so I couldn't care less about this bonus. I just hope the 3 hour downtime is actually only 3 hours this time.

No, you gain "rest state". It puts a little marker on your XP bar. You gain double XP for every mob you kill until you cross the marker. The longer you rest, the more rest state you get. The maximum rest state is 1.5 levels I think, which means that if you're level 20, for example, and you have full rest state, you'll gain double experience for everything you kill until you hit 21.5.

No, you get "rest exp" which comes out when you kill a monster.

For example:
I kill 5 troggs for 100 exp each. I now have 500 exp.
I kill 5 troggs for 100 exp each, with 500 rest exp, I get 200 for each trogg instead of 100, and now have 1000 exp.

Although its funny that they are rewarded us for down time with more down time, its only takes place at 3 AM so its no lost to me.

BTW, during that down time that blizzard is refering to, my server didn't even go down while all the others did. My server is Uther and man... it was freaking packed with people. Most of my guildmates had to wait in queue just to get in. Thankfully I was already logged in before the servers went down, hehe :D

Well, this is just great; Twice this week I've logged on only to discover that the server will be shutdown in about twenty minutes... at about 8 pm. And this time it's to reward me for not even having to deal with the server issues (since I'm on a small server). GG, Blizzard. Play time during the week is limited enough as it is without having it shut down the second I get some free time.
2005-03-31, 3:44 AM #20
It takes about 10 days to get a full rest state methinks. So yeah, this reward is actually pretty good.

Hah, all of your puny blue XP bars make me laugh.

I doubt Onyxia gives any XP at all, you have to have a 40 man raid full of lvl 60 players with fair gear.

My first run that we actually killed Onyxia we did have a lvl 59 rogue, he didn't say anything about XP so I dunno.

The new patch provides extra bars. You can now have up to 60 icons now instead of 12 :)

nope.

You want a free trial, alright. There, you have one now. You can play for 5 hours until it expires. Uh-Oh! Servers are down! It will be 10 more hours until we can get them back up because some rabbits aren't leaving tracks behind when they run. Sorry for the inconvenience, looks like your trial time has ended. Thank-you for choosing World of Warcraft!

I don't understand why wow has been so successful. I mean, the playerbase is about 1.3 million, right? That's enormous!

1) it's based on one of the best RTS titles ever

2) the background story of the Warcraft universe is deep and engagin

3) the characters are diverse, and somewhat original

4) the graphics/style

5) Blizzard always takes loving care of their games

6) it is extremely fun.

WoW is fun if you like grinds like every other game or pointless leveling. It's better than other pointless RPGs though with its style.

I don't think a lot of people buy it and play it because it is fun though. I bet a majority of the subscribers bought it because of the name, friends have it, or they want to look cool because they have an awesome game and such. You can tell because most of the people you play with, if you ask their age, they are 10-16 years old. Also, the forums provide further proof of the age attracted through its extreme insanity level. Only kids with hormones could possibly be so full of angst.

WTF? If you look at the pattern in gamers, you'll find they're 12-18. Kids generally have more time to play games...not to mention, I've met a LOT more adults on WoW than I have on other MMO's.

Are you one of them? I can't tell, but since most kids roll their eyes at their parents I'm only guessing. :)
