Here's a preview from the DOD Source Beta:

I guarantee I won't like it, but I know alot of you will, so enjoy.

This doesn't please those of us who hate HL and HL2 multiplayer in any of its incarnations. =(

Basically kidding! Neat! I sorta felt DoD went downhill after a certain version, but it's still neat that it's finally making its way to HL2. Here's hoping the level archetecture isn't as horrific as CS's.

I have no idea what you're talking about quib, CSS' level archi is fantastic.

Anyway, DOD:S will be my lifeblood. None of you will hear from me for months. Sure, I like CSS, but DOD is 1000000000 times better. There's only 1 single cheap thing I can think of in DOD, and that's blocking. Other than that, there is absolutelly NOTHING that can be done to make me angry in that game. Any death I suffer is going to be legitimate. Any kill I make can't be considered 'cheap' or given some title that suddenly makes it sound bad. Camping is normal, a 1 hit kill with the SR is accepted. Death is pretty inevitable with pretty much any weapon. The best player trully wins in this scenario. Greatest thing is, yeah, teamwork helps, but generally, you can rambo in DOD and kick much ***. It's all about knowing the maps, and knowing when shooting someone isn't worth it.

The score is FAR more important than K:D, to me. Because of this, I can actually have FUN. CSS doesn't offer me this concept at all.

Guess I'll go play through all the levels again and give them a fair reevaluation. I recall them being boxy as hell.

I don't recall exactly between which and which version I stopped liking DoD. Oh, I remember something about the crosshair changing drastically; like when I liked it, the guns had generic bland crosshairs, and in the version where I stopped liking it, there were detailed crosshairs, with an aiming bracket then a little dot that swayed around in a sideways figure eight like mad when you were running.

That looks beautiful...good to hear they're re-adding recoil!

...?

Prehaps, most of the maps consist of realistic buildings and rooms. You can't blame cs_office, cs_prodigy (sp?) and so on for being "boxy as hell." The game isn't JK or something like that.

DoD may be good, but that review is complete promotional material.

"The first thing I have to mention is the sound. The quality is amazing, footsteps vary depending on the speed the player is moving at, so if you are crouched they are slow and sprinting sounds like you are running; as it should."

Uhh, this guy talks about this as if its something new! This was in JK for crying out loud!

And CS:S is trying to have the maps look realistic.

Buildings are quite boxy...

Despite our imaginations, there are not pipes sticking out of every single wall...

CS:S looks great I think. It's not overly detailed to choke MP, but it's detailed enough that it really feels like your walking around an office for example. (with everything being breakable, etc)

On DoD...I remember there being the bleeding effect...where you would get hit and start bleeding and have to patch yourself. But they took it out...:(

I think he's talking about the clearity, using those effects has been around for quite a long time. Though it kind of bites if they put sounds for when you're crouched- so much for stealth.

Matty, you might want to wait until you hear how the sound actually sounds before making usch a judgement. ;)

I used to play DoD in clan for a while and while it is far more fun to play than CS, it's too small, at least here in Sweden :(
