Wow, it's been a while since I last posted!
Anyway, I have a Rhetoric class in the 9th grade at the moment, and we're working on debates - which happen to be due this Monday. We have to write 100 note cards with info on them which we can use - it has to be from a good, reliable source, preferably primary although some secondary is ok as well. I have 40 so far.
Everyone's topic is mass media, but we have to argue both affirmative and negative (ie both for and against it). My friend and I are going to be the second team to deabate (there are 2 teams of two people each going at any given time), and we're argueing affirmative. In other words, we are trying to convince the other team and our audience (the rest of our class and the teacher) that mass media needs to be regulated and changed.
We're basically saying, some escessively violent programs should be censored on network tv, bad stuff on the internet needs to be banned, or something of the sort.
I don't necessarily agree with what I'm debating, but it's for a grade and I have to. Please, don't turn this into a flame war. However, I would like two things from people who would kindly get into debate mode:
1) links to good sites (primary sources preferably, and yes I've already googled a fair bit) with information BOTH for and against the regulation of mass media in our society. Preferably guys with Ph.D.s and that sorta stuff.
2) people could express their own deep thoughts, findings, opinions, and memories from previous deiscussions of this topic. If you have some sweet point or analogy or story or whatever, It could just tip the scale in our debate.
Thankyou!
