Even at $200 a pop that they want to get those down to, that's still a lot of money for a traffic cone.

200$ is pretty cheap for a robot that can replace a worker that would normally be paid 30 000$/year

In a few cities there was a thing where police or fire-people could change the color of a traffic light with a remote device in an emergency. Then some people started getting their own and the system had to be dropped. Couldn't someone just hack these cones and move the 'shepherd' around remotely? That could be fun...

Oh yes... we could take the cones for a test run around the city. That would turn a few heads to see cones moving apparently by themselves. They could push into people and crowd them off of sidewalks, hehe [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Yeah, this kind of reminds me of the Katana fleet...I bet we'll see the "shepherd" cone make a random jump into hyperspace and all of the traffic cones will never be seen again...

Ugh, this sounds like a terrible waste of taxpayer money. I can see all traffic cones being replaced with these.. things.

Meanwhile, the main road around here has a straight line of pot holes 3 inches deep for miles. Yay!

That's a flagger... like me... and a bucket of sand can't replace us in MOST cases.. but I can see them working on those automatic ones to be able to have stop lights on them or something to replace flaggers eventually.
