Easy to install (A simple unzip operation) and then easy to set up.

Enjoy.

Really? In the years that I've been using various versions of Outlook, I've never had a problem with viruses, keeping up with the security updates is all it takes, and for the extra paranoid you can turn off the preview pane. And as for the spam-laden comment, the mail client has nothing to do with that.

same here. I've never had problems with Outlook. The biggest (and simplest) way to avoid getting viruses is to *not* open attachments...

I myself have never had any issues with Outlook, nor for that matter ever gotten a virus on my machine. It seems to be a powerful coherent fairly intuitive piece of software.

Though the issue currently is that i recently reinstalled winxp as i got new hardware and so forth [long story short a dodgy mobo buggered my xp install so it was simplest to just reinstall], however without the registry information or whatever, despite that i still have all my Ms Office 2000 or whatever version they are in my Program Files, they won't run as theyre 'not installed for this user'.. I also do not have my MS Office install cd currently and may not for some time [again long story]. Thus.......

I figure it may be worth looking into an alternative email client, ideally one that can reliably import all my outlook emails [about 3y of backlog of stuff i would really like to keep around]. Though for that matter i've got another 3y or so that i keep an old install of Juno around to view as i haven't found a way to import those to a newer client.

Arr, so i got Thunderbird because i can't use Outlook currently as stated above. And i tried to import my Outlook email and Thunderbird tells me that program is not installed and then lets me exit the dialogue.. gah! The whole point of getting this is /because/ Outlook wasn't reinstalled. As in it is physically on the drive, just not registered with the registry or whatever.

That's because it believes it isn't installed, due to the fact there are no registery entries. Dunno about a fix though.

I have no idea what that's supposed to mean, but you can check hotmail with outlook.

But yeah, but I agree with Mystic here, [http://forums.massassi.net/html/rolleyes.gif]

No I didn't. Even the guys at Tech TV admit that Outlook has horrible security holes, and crappy spam filters. If your going to use your email addy for anything OTHER than saying hi to your friends in town, then I suggest Thunderbird and the likes.

BTW, client does have something to do with the amount of spam you get, because different clients have different and better *cough*thunderbird*cough* spam filters.

BTW, I've never used Eudora, so I have no idea how it works.

On the contrary, Outlook always asks me if i'm sure I want to open an attachment (clearly starting that it could pose a security risk), whereas accidentally loading an attachment in Thunderbird (default settings, as with Outlook) resulted in me getting an email worm that was sending at a rate of about one per second.

I've been trying to use the Thunderbird spam filter and it seems to be getting WORSE at sorting out spam the more I train it. All of my legitimate emails are getting sent to Junk, yet about a dozen (per day) spam emails get sent to my proper inbox.
