I was playing a game of chess at Yahoo games, as I'm prone to do when bored, and I played a game against this guy. He was fairly nice for the first game.. but I stomped him pretty good. I asked him if he wanted to play another. He said sure. The resulting game ensued.

By about move 15, I had him running, but then at 20, he just began placing me in check over and over and over again with his queen. As you can see he didn't accomplish anything, and ended up losing anyway (though I had to sacrifice a rook and my ultimately my queen in order to get him to stop putting me in check). So basically all he accomplished was to waste about 45 minutes of my time. I couldn't stop him from putting me into check because the only pieces on the board (other than our kings and queens) were my 2 rooks (still in their respective corners,) and a few pawns on either side, so I had nothing to hide behind. I had this conversation with him:

sarn: Dude, you can't win by not losing (said at about move 30-35)
socrrob2: I gotta keep putting you in check or I'm ****
sarn: But you're not going to accomplish anything. You're just wasting my time
socrrob2: oh well

then later, after I managed to evade check for one turn, and in the process take his other bishop (his last remaining piece except for a couple pawns)...

socrrob2: well go back to this

(I said nothing. A few turns later, I forced him to trade queens with me, after he allowed me to decimate all his pawns. I then advanced a pawn, to obtain a queen, and just before my mating move...)

sarn: retard. You lose. (I'm not normally a bad sport about winning, but this guy pissed me off.)

Anyway, this sort of behavior pisses me off. If you've lost admit it, and resign. It's not like you're gonna change the outlook of the game. You're just gonna piss the other player off.

Btw, if anyone wants to play a game some time, I'd go for it. Get me on MSN or IRC to see if I'm available

Looking at the coordinates does not give me a adequate view of what happened. I'd have to see the board and the actual moves.

Also, is there a GPL chess program that lets you play with another remote player? Such a thing would be ideal for these kinds of internet games.

well you don't have to see all the moves to get an idea... Notice how from about 20 through to about 60 all his moves have a + after them? That means he placed me in check.

(and if you do want to recreate the game, grab a chess board and work the moves out.)

Maybe he was waiting for you to make a careless mistake..?
woot!
2005-04-06, 10:32 PM #5
well.. I really *couldn't* make any careless mistakes. I can't move my queen into check, and I couldn't move any other pieces cause I had to get the king out of check each move...
Only thing I might have done is gotten my king between his queen and mine somehow.. but my queen was on the other side of the board. Would have taken several careless mistakes in a row on my part.

I just played a game that lasted 104 moves.. The only thing was, it was an even fight til the end. We ended up with one rook and one king each! I made a careless mistake and ended up losing tho. :(

And suddenly after seeing the entire coordinates of a chess game typed out in front of you, you realize that the internet forum you visit daily isn't, in fact, a community of guys who like starwars; but a hive of zits, thick glasses, and insecurities.

And then you realize that you understand, and can play out the entire game in your head using only those coordinates. This is the moment you've lost all hope. This is the moment everything has fallen apart.

You shouldn't use the word "retard" as an insult, it makes you look just as stupid as people who use racial slurs or sexual preference as an insult.

I agree with Rob here, you don't do yourself justice when you call him a "retard."
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I feel your pain. Where's Charles Darwin when you need him?

I think you should've done a half queen sicilian dragon gambit at move 53, thus forcing his king to retreat, opening up his left wing for a pawn capture en passant, leaving room to get a new queen. From there I foresee a mate in 8 moves, if of course he doesn't counter you with a midgame variant of the Ruy Lopez opening by attacking your knight with his bishop, or a lite rook Caro-Kahn style defense, which you can then in turn counter by going Nimzo-Indian.

Yeah, moron works.

Though I find, prolonging a one sided match in anything is usually enough to piss the other person off, which is a great way to get the other person to make a mistake.

Example:

In a game of pool, if you have alot more balls on the table, just keep shooting the cue ball close to the eightball, so that they're damn near forced to hit it. That, or make sure that they NEVER have shots on their turn, even if it means NOT sinking one of your balls. (get your mind out of the gutter)

Also, if you ever play a goth kid, start trash talking him. They're distracted pretty damn easy.
