The joys of search and rescue

As few of you may know, I'm a member of the local volunteer search and rescue team. Although things get a little rough sometimes, I love being a part of it.

Just recently we did a training exercise on a near by trail and someone actually thought to bring the team's camera and I felt like sharing with you lot.

Here was one of our "injured hikers" before we took her back down to the trail head

Prepping the stretcher with the wheel. It helps with the weight, but steering and keeping the stretcher level is really hard sometimes. (I'm on the far right, in the dark clothes)

More prepping.. I think this is from a different stretcher carry (we did two that night)

Trying to get to the trail head with our paitient strapped in (I'm holding the stretcher on the rear left)

So, there you go. That's what I do.

Is anyone else here a search and rescue member or some other volunteer like a fire fighter or something? Post pics if you got them!

Good stuff. Sith Nazgul does volunteer fire fighting. I'd like to get into fire science in grad school, which might mean a few seasons doing fire fighting for the Forest Service, CDF or some other agency with wildland fire crews.

Those are cool pics.

I almost became a volunteer firefighter back home before I left for university, but then I ... left for university. :p

You're not as cool as SN.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Why don't you have a yellow jacket? The people with those look more professional.

I was a trained member of the search and rescue ground team for a Civil Air Patrol unit, and went on several missions..fortunately, they were false alarms (nobody was injured..people forgot to shut down their emergency beacon after a hard/crash landing, etc).
woot!

I don't have a jacket because I'm still somewhat new to the team.

There's about 20 of us that don't have jackets yet that are on the team. We're supposed to get them in a couple of months.

Oh, that's good. You know, despite what they try to make you believe, you aren't really on the team before you get your yellow jacket.

Haha, actually, the company that makes our jackets doesn't make them in yellow anymore. quite disappointing :(

The whole team is getting new red jackets instead... I still want the yellow though!
