When will Americans realize that it's not only the food you're eating, but also the portion-size? You could eat anything you want if you eat in moderation and ... wait, I was about to suggest exercise but that's not going to happen. Keep those SUVs driving.

The kids wouldn't eat junk if their parents wouldn't give it to them in the first place. The kids aren't gonna start grabbing broccoli instead of snacks in the grocery store.

And growing fast. Wednesday, the new annual Index of Child Well-Being showed childhood obesity tripled to almost 17% in 2004 from 1975. The New England Journal of Medicine says about 10% of kids under 5 were overweight in 2000, a doubling in 30 years.

Which I'm sure was caused by cookie monster...

People aren't responsible for their own health. It's always someone else's fault.

Parents are also never to blame.

I agree, as a kid I hated veg (still hate most of it now), we was only allowed sweets and biscuits ocasionally while fruit was usually available and we could have as much as we wanted, not that we ever wanted much.

The answer, as already said, is smaller portions, controlled access to sweets and snacks and excercise.
