Stuck without a game.....
2005-04-09, 7:46 AM #1
Hey everyone,
First post.... First of all, I love the jedi knight series and like the old jedi outcast game..... Well, after I moved, my disc wouldn't install anymore (I soppose a scratch...) :(

So could someone send me files or something? I've got the disc right here, I could take pictures or whatever. Please?

Yes!

Then get a No-cd patch for JO, if you got the files on the computer.

There seems to be a problem with reinstalling JO with the CD. Maybe just send your CD to Lucasarts, with proof of purchase, and I think they can send you a new one. Not sure.

Try getting a CD resurfacer and see if that helps

Ripp: Me sending you JO files is illegal despite you having the disc yourself. It would be the equivilant of me burning JO then mailing it to you which is no good in the EULA.

Contact Lucasarts and see if you can get a replacement disk, or like Avenger said, get a resurfacer for the CD. Or purchase it again. It's, what $20 now?

Ending note: It is against forum rules to ask for files of this nature. Do be more careful in the future.

Well morally he's doing nothing wrong asking for the files since he does own the game.

Try using WinISO (or some such program) to make a .iso image of the disk, then burn it. I've found that even if something wont install due to scratches i can still make an iso of the disk and install from that. Dont ask me why this works, but it's worth trying.

Yeah what TheJkWhoSaysNi said

I suggest you download the trial version of Alcohol 120% (Better - cause it skips errors in the cd) then make an image of the cd and install from there. Also it would be wise to make a backup of the image onto another cd just in case.

I'll have to try that on Deus Ex. I had to go through less than savory means to get it again after it got scratched all to heck.

I've heard that EULAs are not legally binding since once you bought the game, the deal was sealed. They can't force you to abide by any extra terms after purchase.

You heard wrong, stop being ignorant.

Actually, he's somewhat right. The law is currently being debated. As of now, though, it stands as a legally binding contract even after purchase. Legal analysts, however, claim they can't be legally binding, and the case is slowly working it's way to the court systems. Many people believe it's going to pass and EULA's will no longer be binding. But maybe that's wishful thinking?

Good god, all he did was post something he had heard. He didn't post it as fact, and neither did he flamebait. He brought up a good point.

Stop inciting flame wars for no reason, Mikus. It's getting old and annoying.

And Kirby--Really? That'd be awesome, but I could see them saving the EULA with some crap about pirating.

Far-fetched scheme: Have you tried copying the original disc and then installing from the copy?

Stop telling him to play other games. Any game without stormies is at least half as lame as any game *with* stormies.

Ok look, unless there has been concrete proof that the EULA has changed so where getting files from another person and you can show proof of purchase is legit, sending game files is still illegal.

Which is why I stress, do not talk about means of obtaining files. It is against our rules. Do you all want Massassi shut down? You know how relentless RIAA/MPAA has been.

I doubt that they would go that far.

Re: the eula thing, legal or not, I still think that it's unjust. Once you take the box home and open it, they have you by the balls, and they know it. You can't return an opened software box (at least not around here--- and understandably so, since the old buy+copy+return is the oldest scam in the book) so you are forced to agree or you have to eat the costs. I would equate that to signing a contract under durress-- meaning that you were forced to sign. You say that EULA = contract, so.....

Quote:
If one of the parties can prove that the contract was signed under duress, that is the party's signature was extracted by physical or mental coercion, then the contract is null and void.

But you don't HAVE to have the game, and no one's forcing you to open the box.

you buy the game b/c you want it, and to get the game out, you have to open the box (or break the shrink-wrap, same concept) . So: they win, you lose.

and the EULA is usually written in the manual which is inside the box

if the EULA said "by opening the box you agree to let us enter your home and rape you" you're screwed (no pun intended) because you had to open the box to even read it

Why was my post edited when all I said was the words "Bit...Torrent..."? Thats not against the rules last time I heard/saw/read.

I've seen plenty of people be discreet like that and not get edited.
