I'm looking to purchase a domain name and hosting for a friend on mine. Bandwidth and space aren't very much, max needed is probably 50MB, and that's probably way more than needed. I heard I reasonable price is around $40 a year, if not pretty much the next cheapest thing will do. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Why would I go with a seperate webspace hosting & domain hosting when out-post.net does both for $4.99 a month? Or am I seeing something wrong?
Oh I get it, the domain would just be forwarded to the hosted space on out-post.net. In terms of everyone saying godaddy.com for domain hosting, why would I go with them for $8.95 a month for a domain when I can get one for $5.99 a month @ 1and1.com?

If your friend doesn't really care what letters are on his domain, but still wants his own name, DotTK is giving away domain names for free. The format will be www.hisdomainname.tk

He won't have full domain liscenses, he has to buy those, and there are some restrictions, such as it must get a certain number of hits per month to keep the name, but it is free. Terms can be found here, but only section10.3 is important. 30 page views within 90 days is their restriction.

Some sort of ad campaign for the islands of Tokelau.

I would suggest gkg.net for domain registration. Sure you may save a few bucks elsewhere, but gkg.net have ultra-fast customer service and a really nice web control panel. Whatever you do, don't go through Network Solutions.

Well, in my opinion 1and1.com looks the best. For $4.99 a month I get 500MB webspace, 5GB of bandwidth, 50 POP3 accounts, FrontPage 2003 and a domain name at no additional cost. That definitely seems to be the best deal out of all of them. Would I be missing anything here?

For that exact same price, you can get 3 GB web space, 25 GB monthly bandwidth, 100 POP accounts, MySQL databases, PHP, and Frontpage extensions from Fuitadnet. Domain names are $9.95/year, but it's still a great hosting plan.

Yea, but I don't need 3GB of space when I'm only going to be using less than 25MB probably. Not to mention 1and1 comes with the domain, while that place is $9.95 a year.
