I decided to take a look in my junk mail box, just to see what kind of spam it has collected... As well as being offered several million dollars by several people in foreign countries (around $75 million in total), I found this gem of an email:

Subject: Don't Ignor Read Please

Hello,

My name is Mrs.Jennifer Wilson I am a dying woman who have decided to donate what I have to you/ church. I am 59 years old and was diagnosed for cancer about 2 years ago, immediately after the death of my husband, who had left me everything he worked for.

I have been touched by God to donate from what I have inherited from my late husband to you for the good work of God,rather than allow my relatives to use my husband's hard earned funds unGodly. Please pray, that the good Lord forgive me my sins.I have asked God to forgive me and i believe he has because He is a merciful God. I will be going in for an operation, and i pray that i survive the operation.

I have decided to WILL/donate the sum of $1,500,000 (One million five hundred thousand dollars) to you for the good work of the lord, and to help the motherless, less privileged and also for the assistance of the widows. At the moment I cannot take any telephone calls, due to the fact that my relatives are around me and i have been restricted by my doctor from taking telephone calls.Presently,my WILL have been adjusted and my lawyer has been notified.

I wish you all the best and may the good Lord bless you abundantly, and please use the funds well and always extend the good work to others. Contact me through this email address jjenywilson@netscape.net if you are interested,so that i can feed you with the information on how to claim the funds of ($1,500,000.00).I know I have never met you but I have been directed to do this by God,and i hope you act sincerely.

NB: I will appreciate your utmost confidentiality in this matter until the task is accomplished,as I don't want anything that will Jeopardize my last wish, due to the fact that i do not want relatives or family members standing in the way of my last wish.

Regards,

Jennifer Wilson

Good idea, I just replied with this:

Dear Mrs. Jennifer Wilson,

It saddens me to hear of your plight. My heart and prayers go out to you. Being a follower of God, I will do what I can to help you. If the Lord grants me this chance, I will use this money in whatever way you see necessary. I am just a simple man, but my heart brightens to think that I could help you accomplish your last wishes. Please, please, respond to this; I want nothing more than to help you.

Sincerely,

Kyle B.

Booze is a given - as long as it's after August 1, so I can buy it legally.

Now, interestingly enough, Global Securities is a real company, but from what I can tell they have their offices in Canada, whereas the +44 country code is for the UK... (also the e-mail address is '@yahoo.co.uk' [as if a corporation would have a Yahoo e-mail address anyways])

I dunno... anyone have any suggestions? I'm not calling an international number; I want to be able to say that I never actually lost any money on this. So I guess that leaves trying that fake corporate e-mail account.

Definately don't call. Emailing may be fun, but the phone call could be a big run-around that ends up charging your phone into the thousands.

Who wants to bet that when you contact any of those numbers or addresses, they'll act like that (apparently real) company and verify all that information and then you'd be expected to give them your information so that they can transfer the money, at which point they would indeed transfer money....from your account and into their pockets.

Quite a clever little scam. I have no idea how you should go about playing them. Perhaps you could call the real company, verify that their info is BS, then arrange a sting operation with the polic einvolving a conference call!!!! OR....not.

Not especially. I have limited sympathy for anyone who loses money to these sort of frauds. I remember seeing loads of interviews with people who'd fallen for these sorts of things when they were first getting publicised on places like the BBC News website. They'd go on about how these scams were so convincing and how they were victims, blah blah blah. Truth is, in the ones from that era, the emails clearly stated it would be an illegal transfer of money, so how they can paint themselves as innocent is really beyond me. That's not to say I support what these scammers are doing either, of course.

Oh of course not, but you're right in the sense that the "victims" are usually just ****ing idiots. Same as the people who open random attachments in their emails and then ***** when a virus takes over their system. People like that just need to be smacked upside the head.

I googled global securities, and I just think its a very well put together fake company. It really wouldn't be hard to fabricate it. And why would this global securities company be using a yahoo email address?

Anyway, check out 419 Eater.com for some really excellent scambaits! This guy has somehow managed to scam money from the scammers!

I think you should try e-mailing the e-mail address, no doubt that person logs in there occassionally. Ask for the money.

Okay, I replied to "Mrs. Jennifer Wilson" with this:

Quote:
Dear Mrs. Jennifer Wilson,

I'm terribly sorry to have to bother you with this, but I tried the phone number for the company and it didn't connect. The phone company informed me that the number wasn't valid. I'm going to try e-mailing the company to see if I can give them my information that way. It pains me to ask you to respond to this e-mail; I realize you are in a weakened condition and have trouble typing. Again, all my prayers go out to you.

God bless,

Kyle B.

Don't worry, I didn't actually try to phone them. I'm now going to e-mail the "company" and see what kind of response I get.

ok, here's what you do:

Re-email her and tell her you can't afford the phone call, because all of your cash is in reserves and it costs money to take it out of reserves. Tell her you don't trust your information over the internet, and also tell her to deduct the amount of money it costs her to send you money to pay for the phone convorsation. Now that you've got some cash, e-mail the 'company' and tell them the phone number didn't work. They'll try to get you to do the transactions over the internet. Tell them you're THINKING about getting a lawyer, just to make sure everything is done legally. They'll freak out. Then you e-mail them a month later and say that you got the money, and simply can't keep it. You're NOT a god-serving man, and were going to take the money. Tell them you'd like to transfer the ENTIRE 1500000 back into her account, and all you need is THEIR account. Now you have a credit card account number that you could either A: Report to the Police, or B: ??????? Prosper.

I'd only suggest any of this if you're willing to invest the time, and follow the rules of law, as well as try to only take from them what money you can justify as 'fair.' Don't SCAM the people, but teach them that scamming won't always pay.

Heh, I like that idea... however, I don't really feel like spending the time, and it does seem like it might be a little outside the boundaries of the law. I'm more interested in just seeing how long I can play with them.

In that case, reply to this woman and tell her you'd like to get a lawyer just in case any online transactions go sour. Or have a UKian call her and play telephone tag until she gives up. Getting them to send pictures or admit they're scamming, or tripping them up in their own feet is always fun.

Subject: Account Information

To Whom it May Concern,

I have recieved several e-mails regarding a client of yours who wishes to transfer a sum of money to me. The client in question is James Wilson (the e-mails were from his wife, Jennifer Wilson). She said that I should state this information:

REF: wilson/982/xdv/08
Deposited by: James Wilson
Amount: $1,500.000.00
Safe No.: 13
Year of Deposit: 2001

I attempted to telephone your offices, however I believe that the phone number Mrs. Wilson provided may have been mistyped. If this transaction will require telephone communication, could you please e-mail the correct phone number, or provide a link to your website where I could find the appropriate information? Thank you in advance for your help.

Sincerely,

Kyle B.

I'm going to re-email "Jennifer Wilson" and tell her that I'm thinking about getting a lawyer.

Dear Mrs. Jennifer Wilson,

I e-mailed Global Securities and gave them the account information; I
am hoping that I can make the arrangements using e-mail. However, to

given me.

With all my prayers,
