I've read all kinds of PC building tutorials, but can somebody direct me to one they know to be up-to-date? Say just the newest one you know of. Just want to make sure its not a couple years old and will misguide me by todays standards.

If they're talking about hardware similar to what you're getting, it's probably up-to-date. For instance, if you're purchasing an AMD-64, and they're referring to one, it's a safe bet that it's relatively recent. It should really be that difficult to find some decent articles on the major tech sites that are recent.

Not much has changed in the last few years. Most hardware comes with a simple installation guide anyway.

Putting a PC together is like legos. Just make sure you don't put the legos on backwards or stuff starts to smoke. IE Memory.

heh, but you pretty much can't do that anyway... I guess you could put IDE cables in backwards. Or maybe the processor... But it's usually labeled, so just follow the directions and there won't be any problems. And most of the plugs will only fit in one direction.
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Actually I put a 512 stick in backwards once. I thought it was just being sticky so I forced it in. It snapped in position, but then I noticed a slight curve in it toward the middle and fixed it. Fortunately it wasn't broken. I wonder what would have happened if I had booted it up. :p That was back when a cheap 512 stick of PC 3200 cost 100$, too.

you have to break pins off to get a processor in the wrong way.

Unless you're talking about BTX, in which case I don't know.
