[tangent] Well, anti-lock brakes, seat-belts, or airbags aren't likely to help once you're involved in a high-speed head-on car-accident either, are they? If you hit an elk at dusk, and it comes in through your windshield, goring and crushing you under its antlers, the fact that you were wearing a seatbelt, had an airbag pop-up and burst in your face, were equipped with anti-lock brakes, had your lights on, and weren't speeding isn't going to help you either. Well, except if you somehow miraculously survive, your insurance policy compensation won't be as bad as without them.

I'd still rather have them than not.

I'd rather have my seatbelt than not, too, but I don't think it's up to the government to dictate to us things like wearing seatbelts or bike helmets. How is that freedom?
2005-04-22, 11:45 AM #90
Of course not. And in addition, many people would stop biking.

Biking is safer than driving anyway.

And GothicX, you don't look too bad. I guess.

wait, so you never were in a coma?

my freind was hit by a car last summer. he broke both of his legs, the man who hit him was lookling for cars and my freind thought he was stoping to let him by. he was riding his bike, by the way. when the guy hit him he got out of the car and started hugging my friend. he came out alright, but it scared me.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Does it even matter? If he was or not is insignificant, what matters is that now he's alright.

[tangent] Brian, it's not flimsy foam, not a good helmet. If you've ever worked with high density foam you know just how DAMN hard that stuff is. It's designed to protect you in most situations, not make miracles. Also, if laws weren't around to enforce seatbelts and helments, no one would use them because they think it can "never happen to them" which it can. The laws are there to protect people too stupid to wear helmets. Laws are there to protect the people, although not all of them do, but that doesn't matter.

GothicX, glad to hear you got better. From that photo you don't look that bad at all, nothing a little healing and maybe minor reconstructive surgery can't fix (the internal things sounded kind of bad).

Also no, it doesn't matter, but it's not totally rude to ask if he was in a coma or not. It's not like saying, "Oh, so you DIDN'T die? Oh this sucks."

The picture is taken in an angle that doesn't show the wounds too much. When my best friends saw me, they panicked. I can't even look at myself in the mirror no more. My face is all blue and swollen after last night's sleep.

And no, I never were in a coma.

You are freaking hot. Sorry I missed this thread BEFORE we found out you were ok, I could have said some inspiring thing about how we're good friends and you mean a lot to me. Instead, I'll just hit on you and your wounds. *meow*
