Well, in 1996 (about a month and a half after I graduated high school), I joined the Air Force. I served 4 years as a computer operator (and started Massassi during that time). In AUG 2000, I was released from active duty and placed on Inactive Ready Reserve. Inactive Ready Reserve means they will call you after the regular Reserves have been called up but before they draft anyone. My commitment for Inactive Ready Reserve was four years. They count the time between when I signed up initially (MAY 1996) and the time I actually shipped off (AUG 1996) as part of that time, so today, (04 MAY 2004) is my LAST DAY on Inactive Ready Reserve! I called the Reserve Center just now and they said they will mail my final release papers soon, but that as of the end of today, I am no longer obligated.
I can finally donate all my old uniforms! No more taking up closet space. No more keeping the feds updated on my whereabouts. No more feeling sick in the gut every time I hear about another inactive component of our military being re-activated (not that I would have had a problem going - it's just nerve-wracking).
Anyway, I need to celebrate. Any ideas?
