Guild Wars

I'm sorry should a topic like this have been started a while back, I haven't only recently started visiting these forums.

With the upcoming release of Guild Wars, which has been in production by ArenaNet for a good 3 years now, I wanted to know how many -ians were looking into getting it, who were looking forward to its release?

I personally got into the Beta Events and I must say it was purely an outstanding MMORPG. It has beautiful graphics, but on to of that, some fun and intriguing game which was worked to evade the tedious flaws of typical MMORPGs (EQ, EQII, WoW, Etc.)

Though this game's overall aim is the PvP portion, it features a nice, multi-climate world to explore, loads of quests to complete and hordes of great looking beasts to defeat.

PvP is trully your thing but you hate to start at level one and got to bust your back working up to be competitive? Then this game's got the feature you need. Upon creating a new character ( 4 per server ) you have the opportunity to create a PvP player, gaining access to all pvp arenas/areas and getting a full level character. Of course you have 6 classes which can be interbred, with each 150 different skills, from which you can only take 8 per character? Imagine the diversity that is created by this game, and the new level of strategy this brings to guilds battling it out.

This brilliant MMORPG also offers another unseen "feature", one new to commercial MMORPGS (not Mu Online or Knights Online) :

No monthly fees. Thats right, buy the game, and play as much as you want.

The one little thing I'm "expecting" from free monthly fees is that the expansions (which they call chapters) may tend to cost slightly higher than others. (I may also just be a pessimistic ******* :P)

SOO I wanna know who's going to get it so I can start hanging out with my favorite community of the Internet again :P

I plan to get it. I don't know when though....money is going to delay it.

I'll probably end up picking it up.

I played a few of the weekend events, and I'm also currently playing WoW, and in my opinion there is no comparison. As for no monthly fees? True, but they still plan on charging for additional content that will crop up on a monthly basis. You just have the option of not experiencing that content.

Also, if WoW's pvp isn't already the best, then battlegrounds will tip the scale in WoW's favor. Here are some screenies from the korean beta:

WoW has my money right now, and nothing I've seen/played on Guild Wars looks anywhere near as fun as what WoW offers.

I'll pick it up at some point in time. They may as well have called it Diablo 3, for all the battle system's worth though.

I'm purchasing the game the day it comes out.

Indeed, but for those, like I, who cannot STAND WoW's poor cartoon style (It personally drove me nuts after 1 month of gaming) and the fact that EACH Orc Hunter or EACH Human paladin was the exact same character, then Guild Wars is the next best option.

Personally I had tons more fun playing Guild Wars beta then ever in WoW. Plus in WoW, to be competitive in PvP, then you have to grind 50+ levels which take about 2 months if you're not a zealously devoted player. :o

My copy (collector's edition) is already payed at EB Games, and I should be able to pick it up next wednesday! :D

Oh and about monthly content : I'd MUCH rather pay for new content monthly than chock out a monthly fee for a big whole NADDA like I did for 5 months in SWG. (ok Nadda = half-assed crappy horrible update patches that nerfed one class or another :P)

Not that I know for a fact that Guild Wars will be that much better. :P What I know is that ArenaNet is NOT SoE. hehe

I've seen level 30's and 40's PvP, and I know for a fact you can get level 30 in about a week if you try hard enough. It's not so hard to get to high levels in WoW--they made it that way. If you play lots and try to gain levels, you can make level 60 in a few weeks to a month.

And SAJN--Guild Wars felt EXTREMELY similar to Diablo 3 to me. There were a few minor differences, but hell, even the HUD was fairly similar.

The only problem with that statement is Diablo 3 doesn't exist.

Well quick leveling or not does not save Warcraft from a poor artistic style and outragous gnome machinery crap, heheh

I think the artistic style and atmosphere in WoW is beautifully done. It adds a unique fantasy element that other games in the genre have ignored for the sake of realism. To me, the more realism you put in a fantasy game, the less fantasy there is. While one may not like the particular style that is used, there is no denying the quality.

I have GWs preordered, but I must say that I wasn't at all impressed with the most recent beta. I've been keeping up with the previews and articles for quite some time now, but I'm not quite sure if the game will live up to the hype. The glow effect is irritating, the default controls are atrocious (I always use the default in MMOs and they're usually well thought out), the lag is horrible for those of us who are unable to get broadband (this is the only MMO that I've had lag problems with), the lack of exploration leaves much to be desired (what kind of warrior can't climb a 2 foot rock?), and there's no jump (I haven't been so pissed since Goldeneye). Some of these issues can be attributed to their warped since of what is good for gameplay, but these are some of the most irritating issues that I've had to deal with in a game for years. From what I've seen so far, they're LUCKY that they're not charging a monthly fee, because no one who has played WoW or maybe even EQ2 would bother.

That being said, despite some really stupid decisions, they have some great ideas (some of which are close to revolutionary). However, at this point, in my mind, the bad out-weighs the good. I'll give the full version another shot once it's out, but if things don't improve quickly, I'll be selling this thing off within a few weeks, despite having alot of friends that are playing with me.
