i got my first job at 12 stocking the fridge at a variety store. and for 6 weeks at a time i had to come home from school, do the dishes and make a real dinner for 4 years (my siblings and i rotated in 6 week shifts). then at 15 i started washing dishes in a restaurant. my parents told me that i could start buying my own clothes with the money i made from that job.

no child deserves money from their parents. even if they do all the work around the house. no child.

No child deserves it? Well, I guess our opinions are biased, seeing as how I'm a child and you're a parent. But still...a kid needs some cash to be free, or else, well, what's the point in being a kid? Not much to enjoy, especially at that transitional phase in life.

Personally, I think your parents were a bit harsh on you, making you buy all your clothes at 15, but that's nto too bad. I get all the essentials bought for me--it's just the extras I either have to work hard for or what have you.

Yeah, if you're going to be as stingy and have as much contempt for the kid as Evad here, you may as well not have any. My 2 cents..

I started working when I was 16 (getting a job here under the age of 16 is IMPOSSIBLE. Not in that "okay, he didn't look hard" but that "okay, every single job is taken, no one wants to hire someone that young when they have a competent 18yo willing to work") and now nearly everything I own I bought with my own money. The only thing I don't pay for is my clothes (special clothes, couldn't possibly afford it even with my job), and medical stuff (Simply because I can't afford it at all, it would be impossible for me to.).

I just got a cellphone 6 months ago, and I'm almost 19. I have tons of minutes built up, because I rarely if ever use it. I would be just as well off without it. You really, really don't need it. If you must call someone, use a friend's cell phone or find a payphone you can use.

Doing chores is nothing you should expect rewards from. It's just something you do, you don't think about it. That's why its called a chore, not a job :p

Believe it or not, being a child is a huge financial burden on the parents. Not only are they required to make sure you have food and shelter, they have to make sure you get all the medical treatment you need, all the schooling you need, take you where you need to go (gas isn't cheap), on top of supporting themselves.

All I can say is, stick it out for a couple years, wait till you get a good regular job, then work your bloody *** off. You'll finally get some good money, and you'll be able to show something for it. And I would highly recommend you save half of your money. You never know when it might come in handy. (I mean, in case something happens, you lose your job and you need gas money, stuff happens. It's incredibly nice to know you have $1-2 thousand tucked away for emergencies)

And not having a bunch of toys and stuff is actually a good thing... incentive to stick to your studies! Get workin, youngin!

Your parents are much more likely to help you invest money for the future (as long as they're not complete Mongoloids with money as humans tend to be) than hand you cash. Keep it saved, too. You'll thank yourself when you're in the real world.

If skateboard is your primary form of transportation, try a longboard. While you can't do tricks with them, they're much better suited to getting you places.

Just wait until you get to college. Then you'll have real money/transportation problems. Have you ever just gone to sleep because you were hungry and didn't have enough money to buy food?
