For those of you who have retainers, have you ever not worn it for a while then put it or them back in? Damn it hurts like heck. Of course, it's completely my fault, so its deserved.

Cold drinks and ibprofen usually help.

Thats the point.. if you wear it all the time like you're supposed to, it doesnt hurt that much. But if you leave it out for a few weeks or months, your teeth start to shift around, and then it hurts when you start wearing it again.

I meant that I go for periods of time (a month or so) without wearing it, then wear it for a day. It doesnt really hurt that much.
I think the longest ive gone without it is 2 months. Still didnt hurt enough to make a deal out of it though.

I had one for three years, but had to wear it 24/7. My girlfriend has one that she'll probably wear forever, but she only has to wear it during the night.

I had braces for 2 years, then retainer the whole day for like a year, then just for the night, and now I have to wear it every 3-4 days or so, to check if it fits good, and this, for the rest of my life.

I had braces for 2 years, and then a retainer for the top of my mouth. I stopped wearing it. My bottom teeth (for which there was no retainer) reverted slightly, and my top teeth remained just fine.

Me too. I had braces/retainer on my upper teeth. Perhaps should I get them on my bottom teeth...

I usually don't forget to wear my reatiner but if I do, it is usually only couple days. Nice thing is that I only have to wear them at night.
