I don't remember getting "stage fright"?
2004-05-04, 11:02 AM #1
Just today, we had a poetry contest sort of thing in school. And, everyone goes up to the front of the class and shares, yatta, yatta... Anyway, you didn't have to go, but I raised my hand anyway for the hell of it. Out of nowhere, I felt sick and was shaking badly as I read my poem. The feeling lasted for like, the rest of the day. I don't recall being a person who gets stage fright.

Has this ever happened to anyone?

Used to happne to me quite a bit. I'd get really nervous. I got over it though. Just a matter of channeling the nervous enrgy for me and being confident in myself.

I know, but I don't usually get that sort of thing. I've been in that situation before. It was just odd.

I'd start sweating like a mad man, my voice would crack and shake, and my legs would barely support me.

What's stage fright?

I handled the PA systems for the KY Derby last year. I set up mics in full view of over a hundred thousand people, with many, many more watching on television... It didnt scare me in the least bit.

I used to believe that we must fight the future, lest change come without our consent. I was wrong. The truth is that we must embrace the future, for only with change can we remain the same.

Stage fright is where you feel all sick and whoozy when getting up in front of a big crowd.

But were you actually the focus of their attention?
Two years running I did work for the Rock Estedfod (national school performance..thing) doing all sorts of work in front of very large crowds of people - never phased me in the slightest. However, doing a speech in front of just 20 people will put me in a cold sweat.

EXACTLY! that's what happens to me! I can do almost anything else in front of a crowd, but when it gets to talking, I just break down. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

I had an improv solo for one of my jazz band's preformances, back when i was in it. It helps if you close your eyes and just concentrate on your instrument, or so i've found.

You guys would probably be surprised if you knew me in person. I am one of the quietest people I know by far. I can handle talking to 1 or 2 people fine, but I have a lot of trouble speaking in front of groups of people I dont know very well. I'm just really shy.

I feel comfortable speaking in front of any group, small or large. I've given speeches numerous times without being even slightly frightened, or even nervous. I am not exactly an extrovert, but I have gotten over the silly embarassment of making mistakes in front of people. Everyone does it, no one is laughing at you for being human (unless you screw up very badly, in which case you probably deserve what you get).

I used to get it very very badly. I was the definition of social anxiety and stage fright. But I eventually got over it and I love performing and being up in front of people. It's fun now, but back a couple years ago it sucked.

I'm not shy, I just don't talk much. I don't see the point in talking 24/7 when you don't have too.

I've got you beat. I get nervous talking to even one or two people or a small group (unless I know them very well). Strangely, I don't get nervous in front of crowds as long as I don't have to talk (at least not anymore).
I guess when you've done a ballet in only a speedo, crowds aren't much of a problem.

Whenever you think you might get stage fright just take a deep breath, tell yourself to do your best, remember that the class probably doesnt give a s*** because my school doesnt and just act like your cool about it even if your not.

oh yea and GBK, that would have been so cool to see you on t.v. i didnt think you left your computer tho [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I get stage fright horribly when I audition for theatre. But I never get afraid in the actual play, or when I go on stage to talk or whatever.

I do get nervous in front of groups. That is, I feel nervous. I seem to perform just fine though. I just try to be a casual as possible. If I have a presentation, I adopt a no-worries manner of speaking, and maybe lean against the board a bit. I find it relaxes me to know that I'm not coming off as if I'm trying to be as serious as possible. The thing that used to worry me a lot was the thought that the audience would know that I was nervous, and knowing that, I'd get even more-so. It was a vicious cycle.

So just remember: The more relaxed you look, the more relaxed the audience is, and the less you have to worry about [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
