JA editing contest for Massassi?
2004-05-05, 6:56 AM #1
I know a contest idea has been adressed before, but I felt that the idea should be adressed again.

After looking at the 3 topics (one is closed) in the JO/JA forum, I thought something like a contest (duel, ctf or ffa) might create some interest in the game and editing. The Levelsource contest turned some interest so maybe a contest here could do that. Anyone else might support the thought?

Massassi is more JK-targeted when it comes to editing. Let Levelsource keep their comps. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

JK-editing contest. Maybe it's an excellent idea, I'd like it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

If LevelSource could pull it off, I see no reason why Massassi couldnt. We'd need a lot of PR though.

I think it should be for all JK related games. And not based on looks but architecture or else JO/JA would win for better textures.

I know I might be flogged for blasphemy but I'm seeing some UT2K4 maps appear here (Gonk, Flexor, et al.) Perhaps we could do a contest for that.

Or is this premature?

I dont think enough people in the Massassi Community are avid UT2k4 mappers for a UT2k4 mapping contest to be worth it. We might as well just give Gonk and Flexor the prizes before the contest was even started.

What about a 3 month single-player jo/ja level contest?

That would work. Seeing that SP levels are almost non-existant.

Well, this is interesting, and I sure was surprised to see the announcement on the front page. SP mapping contest! That's totally unprecedented!

For me, the only drawback is my current SP level which should be released this summer. I would hate to put it on ice... With all the promises to voice actors and such...

Well, we'll see what happens...

You could always enter your current map into the contest. As with all massassi contests the focus is on a decent end-result rather than strict rules. You're perfectly free to enter maps you've already started, as long as you don't release it publicly until the results are announced.

Really? Now, that's an interesting option. At least that would guarantee you some hard competition. I have mapped this more or less frequently since January, with gaps of no mapping spanning weeks, but still I would get quite a head-start, don't you think?

Since you are an Administrator, I must take that as an official offer, but if somebody complains about it here, I might back away to keep up the good spirit of the contest (if indeed I decided to enter my current map into it).

Open it to JK/MotS as well, but have 2 seperate competitions.

Well I don't know anything official, it's up to Brian to decide for that. But I do know that Decimation in MLP4 was practically finished before the contest was even announced.

Well, I have had an SP map of my own that has been setting in the dark for a long time now (like nearly a whole year) which is supposed to be a remake of my very first JK SP level "Remnants of the Empire". This might prove to be a good excuse for me to actually finish the damn thing and send it in.
