Yeah, and the filter does a damn good job, IMHO.

Almost too good. I've seen Gmail deem a few legitimate newsletters as spam.

Yes, it does.

Except I seem to get alot of email from girls named Susan and Julie and Nicole and Sarah and Amanda wondering why I haven't called them or replied yet, and telling me to check out there new webcam site.

Wouldn't it suck if those all turned out to be the same Julie, Nicole, Sarah and Amanda that I use to date?
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

I have signed up to recieve emails about deals from a couple websites (easter mountain sports, etc) that gmail originally deamed to be spam. After clicking the "not spam" button once though, it has recognized the emails in the future and directed them to my inbox.

As with any email service, the provider does nothing to prevent you from getting spam. Its up to you to make sure you dont get spam but not giving out your email address in a script-parsable form and by not using your address to sign up for random stuff that will result in it getting added to spammers lists.

Also, if you do get spam, do not reply or click on the link to have your address removed- that just verifies that your email account is active and makes the address worth more when spammers sell their lists.

Yea, I'm with DSet here.
People get spam, not email accounts.
I've been spam free my whole life. I still receive several emails a day that I actually want, It's an active account. I just am not stupid with whoring out my email address all over the internet when not needed.

I've got a spam account: omgwtfspamlolz@gmail.com

I never check it, unless to click an activation link or something for a forum signup, for example.

That is pretty much what all my spam is. I sometimes get 3 in an hour. I've emptied the spam box thrice last week.

Yeah, but I could just go to the chat rooms on Yahoo and get it for free.

Not that I've ever done that before.

Dominik, sometimes I think you purposely act stupid. No offense.

Anyways, my gmail account has only ever let in about four spam messages.

Yahoo's got a filter also, but I've only seen one message catch a false alert.
