Actually, it's quite different. With a television or a radio there isn't any required input from the customer (target), and it's easy to either ignore the exchage or stop it (by changing the channel). A telemarketer calling is almost an intrusion into your life. They tend to call at inopportune times and are often quite persistant with followups to attempt to make whatever sale they're working toward.

I'm not saying you should get pissed at them for calling, but the fact of the matter is, alot of people just don't like confrontation, and hanging up on a person isn't as easy as changing the channel. So telemarketing should be eliminated. I only want people I know calling me. That's why I have an unlisted number and that's why I'm on the do-not-call list

Yes!! this is what i thought when i first heard about the national do-not-call list, and was very confused by corporate resistance. i knew there had to be some at least slightly intelligent telemarketers somewhere.

Anyway, on the main topic, i really like the google ads, they're unintrusive and are a lot better then normal ones for the reasons already said tons of times above.

P.S. the add above this page says "Stop Telemarketing". heh. they work really well!

P.P.S Just to ask, are they suppsosed to be changing colors every time i open a new page or refresh? Or is that jsut because Brian's messing with the colors?

Go to your Adsense account, go to Ad Settings tab, go to the Color Palettes listbox, and right below the listbox is a "manage color palettes" link. Click on it. In there, you can pick any color you wish, or use the HTML color hex codes (#000000, etc).

It helps to read the instructions Brian, geesh ;)
Didn't even see that link, that's whack :)

Can the top ad be put at the top of the page now? I hate where it is right now. Just throw it where the old Recon Gamer ones used to be.

When I first saw the text ads, I was pleased. After all, they're relavant to the subject of the thread and site. The graphical ads say to me 'Massassi is selling out.' Only the lowest of sites have ads for smileys, and my worst fear came true.

Please get rid of the pic ads. Seriously.

I haven't even seen any ads yet, and I don't have an ad blocker.

Google ads = yes
Anything else = no

And I'm pretty sure google pays by how many ads were clicked on, so massassi, click away! ;)

In fact, I would like for you to NOT click the banners unless you are genuinely interested in what the ads are selling. Otherwise, it drives down the value of clicks and thus revenue for everyone running the ads. Also, they can turn off our ads account if they suspect fraud. So please, feel free to click the ads when they come up if you are genuinely interested, but otherwise just ignore them.

Okay, I disabled the image ads.
2005-05-09, 10:38 AM #94
And I put the other ad all the way at the top.

Google ads pay by impressions and by clicks, but clicking on ads a lot not only invalidates said clicks, but also hurts the overall value of each click.

So in other words, only click if you are geniunely interested in the product, people. You're only hurting Brian's income otherwise.

i dunno if anyone has said this yet as i only scanned the last two pages but DO NOT ask anywhere on the site for people to click the links. that is a breach of their TOS or something like that.

google ads are a good revenue source, though ;)

i'm actually liking the ads, much better than the Recon Gamer ones were, plus google is able to tell I'm from the UK so when I click on a link to say a cinema, it takes me to a UK webpage...not a US one...brilliant.

plus some of the links coming up on certain threads are absolutely hilarious...
