In Be-Fo Da Lock: What do *you* think it means?
2005-05-05, 2:25 AM #1
This has been irritating me recently, and I want to know whether my irritation is justified.

This famous picture below, featuring the Icy Hot Stuntaz, has a large caption: "In Be-Fo Da Lock".

Either this means:

A) "In before the lock."

ie: "LOL look at me i posted in a thred tahts gonna be locked B4 it got locked lol!!"

OR:

B) "[This thread] be in for the lock."

ie: "This thread is in for the lock" in a form of ebonics.

What do you think it means?

"I'm posting in this thread before it is locked!"

Same as "I'm posting on page 57 on a legendary thread".

I was thinking about something along the lines of "in [something or doing something] before the lockdown." Basically, these guys are getting around something smoothly because they are straight ballin'. No one can stop 'em!

If it meant the latter, why would it be hyphenated?

That wouldn't make sense considering you have to switch words around to get that. You could get other sayings using the exact same logic.

If it meant " . . . be in for a lock", it would say that, wouldn't it.

Other sayings like what?
The thing is, I believe that it's just meant to be mock-ebonics.

I'm pretty sure any kind of ebonics, mock or no, doesn't involve talking like Yoda. :p

It's "ebonics" to begin with.
