I understand they're by Google, but what criteria does Google use for ads (besides the fabled pigeon method)? I was posting when I was suddenly aghast at seeing the second ad from the left...

So post any hypotheses for the ad-picking algorithm or any especially unusual ads you find.

I assume companies pay Google so their sites can be easily seen by millions on the most popular search engine.

Criteria? It just looks for words on the page and tries to guess what the page is about. Most of them are Star Wars, perhaps that's the 'default' setting if it doesn't find anything else, but occassionally you'll get ones obviously about stuff in that thread.

Surely this could be discussed in that other thread, anyway, Brians?
