I think I want to buy something that doesn't exist...

Rightey ho, bear with me here whilst I try and describe a product that probably doesn't exist.

After my exams I'll be sitting on a small fortune, and aim to spend it on something spanky. Now, assuming money is no object...

I really fancied an MP3 player... then realised something like the Olympus MR-500 has a digital camera too... and that some Archos products have video playback too...

Now here's the tricky bit, I can't find everything I want in one player!

I want:

Digital Camera capability (at least 1.0 megapixel)
MP3 playback (obviously)
Video playback (the more versatile the better)
At least 30Gb of storage, preferably 40 or 60, with CompactFlash or other expansion capability

Or am I just better getting a good MP3 player and a good digital camera? If so what would you recommend THAT ISN'T AN IPOD (glad we cleared that last bit up)
A slightly more stripy Gee_4ce, and more than just Something British...

Here's a good thing about Google Ads.
This is the exact ad that pulled up in this thread.

What does it matter? He said he doesn't want one.

Check out Creative for media players and cameras.

There are better sounding alternatives, at a lower cost.

The line out on the iPod is supposed to be pretty good. The Rio Karma is a feature packed, hi-fi audio player that supports more formats than...anything actually. The Creative Jukebox 3 is discontinued I think, and is considered to be one of the few with a true audiophile quality line out.

Just FYI, even though you don't care.

Aren't there PDAs with those features?

PSP is supposed to be getting a camera attachment or something, right?

Yes.

But you won't get anywhere near 40 gigs of storage. More like 1 with an expansion card.

I'd say look around in the high-range digital camera and PDA market.

I would avoid all Creative products at the moment. I've got a Zen Micro, and it's been fantastic... but all of their players have a -HUGE- defect with the headphone jack. After approximately a month of use, the headphone jack becomes loose and the sound channels start to flicker. Creative has not formally addressed the issue, but is replacing all players with the problem as per warranty. However the replacements currently carry the same flaw :-(

Which is kind of a moot point as far as portability goes. :p

No suggestions, but you do get a 'Hi, haven't seen you in ages, how's it going?' from me!
