Computer Languages
2005-05-06, 2:46 PM #1
I was just curious, but what computer languages do you know? Including 'formatting languages (like HTML and CSS)

Right now my list is rather small...

HTML
CSS
Visual Basic (.NET)
and BASIC

I will be learning Java and C++ in school within the next few months (or at least before December)

I also know a little SQL too, if you count that.

I tried learning VB on my own a long time ago, but I couldn't stick with it, now that I have a class with it, I'm much more eager to learn it, and I'm loving it, and should help motivate me to learn more.

Sadly I don't know of a great deal of languages, so that's another reason I'm asking, to learn of others I may not have known about.

I know of C#, J#, Perl, JavaScript, Python, and Ruby... I think that's it, so other suggestions would be handy. And if any one could point me in the direction of some tools for the languages (i.e. compilers, etc..) that would be handy too... or maybe if there's places online you might know of with Projects for any language to do (just for fun) that'd be good too (I lack a certain level of creativity to come up with my own project).

Now as for where to find tools for them I'd suggest a big book shop, you often get the software included with books for learning the language (there not cheap though)

php and java are the ones I mainly use. Java because I was forced to for AB level stuff, and php because it's just so dope.

and stuff like mySQL html and css and js to complement it.

I used to know a crapload; then I decided it was pointless. I could prolly still write a decent program in C or C++.

I used to know QBasic, till I realized it was useless. Probably don't remember it at all anymore.

I know:

CSS (Very well, actually)
X/HTML

and I am working on:
PHP
MySQL

and I know bits of, but will never learn:
Cog
C/C++

XHTML and CSS are like second nature to me. I can read over something in Javascript, VB or C++ and figure out what it does, but I can't program anything special in any of them.
