Cinco de Mayo

Yes, the day has passed, as noted by that 5.5.5.5.5... thread. But today our city had a big event downtown to celebrate it, since most people work on Thursday.

I was not aware of this. I hadn't slept the night before and was somewhat stressed out with finals coming next week, so I rode my bike to school to get some work done. On the way there, I had to stop at an intersection with police directing traffic as a firetruck slowly crossed. On the fire truck were many men in sailor uniforms, one man dressed as santa claus, and another dressed in a bad spider-man outfit. Needless to say, I was... surprised.

Please explain to me what this holiday is about, and describe your (latent) Cinco de Mayo experiences!

Interesting. I don't recall them ever doing something like that down in Mexico for the 2 years I was there. Leave it to us American's to change it all up. :p
Life is beautiful.

We had a "It's About a Battle, Not Booze" thing at our school. I was supposed to work at a booth, but had a final. That was my Cinco de Mayo. :/

Cinco de mayo is mostly a USA celebration. they don't do that much for it south of the border.

In Mexico, it's celebrating their victory over some army, I think it was the French. In the States, it's pretty much celebrating alchohol and economically priced tacos.
