Today, I was able to get a progressive-scan DVD player that also plays DIVX VIDEO for $41. The price was normally $179.95, but i was able to negotiate the price down to $41 since it was an open box item, there was a small dent in the side, and the remote control was missing. (I wonder if I could get a generic replacement DVD remote that would work with this) It was the best deal i had seen in a long time b/c normally you can't touch a divx player for anywhere near that price. It was the last one, and i was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. <3 Best Buy.

it plays Divx (which I have a LOT of) , VCD, SVCD, SACD, CD Audio, Mp3, and of course, DVD Discs. It can also handle memory cards. The only thing it can't play is Xvid, but no commerical player (except a computer) can do that.

Wow, that's really quite a good deal.

as for my recent purchases, I keep trying to buy a DVI to component video adapter, but they only seem to exist in some alternate universe. Radio Shack didn't have them in stock, Best Buy said they didn't exist, Staples said they could order them in but it would take 7-10 days, Future Shop said that converting from DVI to component was impossible, and now it seems that Newegg.com only ships to the states... oh well... I got my second 6800GT for my SLI setup for about $200, brand new. At the time, about a month ago, the cheapest you could really find them for was about $450, and they're still $400 today.
<Lyme> I got Fight Club for 6.98 at walmart.

I bought my friend's paintball gun. One hundred bucks for the gun, a hopper, 3 elbows, a set of paintballs, and a laser sight. I thought it was a good deal, but I wouldn't really know since I'm a total n00b at paintballing.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

I bought a homemade vacuum tube amp for headphones from someone on Head-Fi. It has yet to arrive. Normally, I would be all wonky about homebrew amps but the guy just kept lowering the price on me and I couldn't help it..

I bought Philips DVP 630 for my parents, and it played Xvid mostly without problems. It played all but one Xvid movie I tried. And I think it just rejected the media with the one that didn't play, not the movie itself. I admit the numbers I tried weren't that high, as I didn't have that many Xvid encoded flicks readily at hand, but the results were promising nonetheless...

That's cool. Progressive scan is nice. Is it 30p, or does it have a 3:2 pulldown for 24p?

Most divx is in 60i anyway, therefore negating the function of progressive scan, but it'll still be cool to see films how they're meant to be seen. It's never really quite the same as in the theater, though, unless you have progressive scan.
