Disposing of a lithium ion battery?

So I've got a dead Li-ION Toshiba battery pack. Throwing it in the garbage doesn't sound environmentally or legally sound, so how do I dispose of this thing?

Many libraries or town halls have bins where you can drop off old batteries to be safely disposed of. At least, the public library in my hometown has this.

call city hall and ask then if they would characterize that as hazardous waste, usually a town wil have a hazardous waste site/ pick up date, you could always contact good old poision control ;)

Take it out into an empty field/parking lot, set it on fire, and watch the fun!

Or you could be boring and do what the others suggested.

Tried charging it with a different charger to make sure it's dead? Well, you're probably not a scrapper like me...I'd never throw away a battery pack.

I put in a new battery off of eBay in the laptop, and it charged up just fine.

Ah...try your local town hall or wherever they take your recycling stuff. Those places often take aluminum, copper, circuit boards, etc. for recycling.
