Photorealism is here, more or less.

My computer, which can run UT2k4 flawlessly, wouldn't even be able to install this eye opener!

Crap, you beat me to it! This is going to be so awesome. Right in time for my late '06 PC, too. Hope they have PPU's by then.

Too bad MP will be a flop though. It'll be filled with people just sitting around saying, "Whoa!", and passing out.

6800's in SLI won't be enough I bet. Every person on this planet is gonna need to upgrade tremendously to play this on high detail.

The only thing that really impresses me is Malcom's hat (Which isn't all that special) and hair/grass. That's pretty much it :x

I mean, Splinter Cell 3 looks a bit like that, except indoors and a bit darker. Just my 2 cents, which have absolutely no meaning whatsoever.

Although I agree that SCCT looks damn fantastic, Malcom here, is probably 100x more detailed in every way then all the enemies in SCCT combined. I mean, look at the shadowing!

Get a grip. It's not THAT great. And if 6800s weren't enough, what would it be running on now? It uses the U3 engine, of course.

But yeah, it'll look veeeery nice. Hopefully I'll get myself an upgrade or two before then.

Ok, ok. But By the time its released though, 6800's won't be enough. Since I'm sure Epic hasen't stopped development of the engine just yet. Plus in 2 years time, there will be much faster cards out which logically would run it much faster.

Look at Doom3, it was designed from the start to take advantage of 'the power of the GeForce3' yet when it was released, you had to have everything on low detail just to get semi playable framerates on a GeForce3.

Every time a next gen game is announced, people go "OMG WTF NO HARDWARE CAN RUN THAT!!!1" and when it comes out a year or two later, all the average hardware can run it average, the great hardware runs it great. Get the **** over it.

I'm more interested in the AI. Voice controlled AI sounds promising. Voice recognition and even good voice synthesizing (which I doubt they will use) has been around for a long time. The only reason it probably won't catch on is the braced-faced mumbling CS and UT players with their mics too close to the mouth will confuse the game and it won't work. I can't understand most CS and UT players online with voice - and I'm a sentient being - let alone a computer is gonna tackle that.

I wonder how the AI will compare to Stalkers? They are both different in that Stalker is a life simulator, and UT2k7 a combat only simulator, but they both have (I'm just assuming) amazing real-time combat skills.

beautiful engine, but I have never liked the art direction of any of the ut games.
I really wish they would try and make something original rather than the stereotypical muscle-bound guys with big, gravel filled voices and nearly naked girls.

I just hope someone else can do something worthwhile with the engine.

Yeah, the whole "I'm not wearing hardly anythig but I have the same amount of health points as a guy who has 10,000 lbs of armor on." gets a bit stupid.

Yeah, and the fact that you can respawn after you die, WTF?! They aren't Jesus! And come on! A gun that shoots 'shock beams'? That could never be real. And I've never walked into a hospital and picked up a vile of 'health' or 'armor'! Sheesh. I hope they fix these problems in UT: 2007.
Think while it's still legal.

The 6800s will be more than enough, but yes there probably will be new video cards out, which are almost always better. The new ATi's are rumored to be 32/24 pipes alone, so hey, they'll probably be insanely powerful.

And GF3's ran Doom 3 just fine 800x600 all things medium. I know, my uncle has one, and I played on it (average rig, not too outstanding).

I like how they build their levels with no art first, and play them that way to tune gameplay. This game is going to be incredibly fun to play, not to mention to look at.

don't get me wrong, starcraft cutscenes were amazing for their time and are still pretty impressive, but they don't even come close to that

I'm glad we are finally in the age of photorealistic graphics. All we need now, is proper water simulation, wind simulation (hl2s is scripted), and more accurate non clipping physics.

They're in UT2k4, and quite pimp too. Unless you knew that, and meant that you hope they implement them in UT2k7.

No they're not. UT2k4 replaced them with horrible machinegun thingies that are like shooting chewed kleenex baals at your enemies.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

The direction of the UT games won't change. They are kill-or-be-killed games; that style will remain. The case is similar to the Quake games. They are known for the deathmatches and fragging and ownage and all those related themes. You won't get a novel-like SP.

As for the game being worthwhile, UT2k4 and its predecessors have always brought entertainment and fun to multiplayer with large communities and modding groups. Of course, other games (not part of Unreal series such as Deus Ex) would provide something more innovative using the engine.
2005-05-11, 6:07 AM #39
I'm not impressed. (Except for mb's post)

Yeah, too bad ION Storm was totally killed. DX2 was quite meh, but I still would have wanted to see DX3. Especially with Unreal 3 engine.

And as for Unreal 3, yeah, it looks nice, but it's hardly impressive. Now if it worked on a.. hmm, 286, technology could impress me again.
