And the chief of police wants us to be sympathetic and go easy on them.
Yeah right! HA!!
These are the guys that came to my school when I was in grade 2, looking impressive in thier uniforms, and told me that they catch the bad guys and put them in jail. They didn't tell me that they are the bad guys and that they will be back to work in 12 months making $80,000/yr.
F***ing ***holes. They should all be prosecuted like criminals. Because they are criminals.

I am fuming over this!

Why should police officers that commit crimes be worse than normal people that commit crimes?

You should be glad that it was reported and these police officers are actually getting prosecuted. Often that isn't the case.

Because Police Officers have pretty much taken an oath to protect and serve the public. Police Officers are people whom you should know that you can trust.

right, who wants someone like Chief Wiggum policing their city? [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs and cackling, telling me, "You're next." They stopped after I started doing the same thing to them at funerals.

Yeah I agree, I think any public servant should be punished more than the usual civilian, especially something like a cop and crime...

It'd be like having a arsonist as a firefighter.

I'm not saying they should be worse. I'm saying they should have the cuffs slapped on them, treated like crap in booking, maybe beat up a bit because they are criminals and sent to jail with a record when they get out.
Not go through a process and back to work in 12 to 18 months at full pay.

That might be tkaing it a little far, but they should be sent to jail, assuming they're guilty

Okay, but what about lawyers and barristers and judges?

Look, hundreds if not thousands of people go to jail because of the testimony or evidence "found" by crooked cops. So if a cop is proven CROOKED, all the people they sent to jail, arrested, or even gave speeding tickets to, should be released (or at least re-tried w/out the evidence or testimony from the crooked cop). If the cop can't obey the law in once instance, what makes you confident that he obeyed the law in all the instances in which he had a hand in convicting others?

Police Officers have no legal obligation to protect you (in America at least), according to the Supreme Court. The thought it nice, though. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

Maybe it's the same reason that they're treated as total heros when they die on the job.
