Consider getting out of the area.

http://www.ready.gov/nuclear_visual.html

I love how absurd our government can be. And I love the Daily Show for finding it.

And as I was telling one of my close friends in reference to that second image, if I were THAT close to a Nuclear Blast, my getting out of the area would consist more of heading towards the great beyond or vaporizing then moving to a safe location.

I'm sorry, but I find the suggestion of "getting out of the area" to be incredibly stupid. Why? Because anything with half a brain (including ANIMALS) is going to know to get out of the area by default. I don't think many sane people would just sit around in an area that's just be devestated by a nuclear blast. Do you?

Well, in today's day and age, you'd probably get a few people who would purposely stay put during a nuclear blast and then after they get radiation poisoning, try to sue the government for not warning them to leave.

Wasn't there a website a long time ago that made fun of all these pictures? I need to find that again...

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

I find it stupid, because, a) you'd have to travel many miles to get away from the effects of the blast, and b) once you see the blast, you'd be lucky if you would be able to travel even a few steps before it vaporized you, and any shelter with-in a two mile radius of the blast. Everyone that was in a twenty mile radius of the explosion would die from the radiation anyway.

If there was about to be a nuclear blast as close as the one in the second picture, running away wouldn't help. The streets would be filled with traffic, and you couldn't run fast enough to avoid it. Might as well go try to catch the missile - Then you don't suffer with radiation poisoning.
Guess what? Yep, that's right. No, no, really, it's right. Think it's wrong? You're right, it's wrong. Know why? 'Cause it is

Me too, DS rules, every single episode is pure comedy gold.

I wonder if being vaporized would hurt?

Probably not. It'd be too fast. You probably wouldn't even know what happened. Out of all ways to die, I think vaporization by a nuclear blast would be the easiest.

Uh, going downstairs or in a house isn't going to help unless it's a bomb shelter. Radiation exposure can be treated if it was in small quantities...but a blast like that? If I knew a bomb was coming, I'd run towards ground zero so I wouldn't have to suffer.

Hee, the BBC in the 50s had 'protect and survive' programmes, they were great.

I heard that your chances of survival in a nuclear blast are signifigantly better if you do not look directly at the flash the bomb makes when it explodes.

Heh, how much proof exists to back that up?

Makes sense, you know. If you look at the blast, chances are it'll blind you, making running away from the blast more difficult.

Well I gathered that part, but still, it doesn't help you THAT much.

I rememeber posting that article here before... For proof to those who think running away helps... 9 ****ing miles away, peoples skin is still being melted, along with car tires and trees. Good luck running.

Also, 160 miles downwind of the blast(s), 50% of all people will die within 2 weeks.

I love humans. They're so peaceful and humane, and we can all see that with the invention of the nuclear bomb. :x

If it goes off real close, I hope I'm close to a wall.

That way, I can just jump up and foward with arms outstretched as it goes off, and leave a superman take-off silhouette.

That way they'll know what the score was.

yeah, I forgot, the flash from Nuclear explosions burn permanant shadows. (They saw this in Hiroshima, post-explosion) Any idea on why it does that?

Not to mention, the wall would be destroyed. ;)

You'd be surprised. Many humans seem to have traded their natural reflex of survival for blantant stupidity.

If you survive the nuclear blast, then going outside will mean almost certain death. You have to try and weather the fallout.

Depends on how big the nuke is and what type it is as well. If it's an H bomb, lot's of people are just screwed. Now, an old A bomb, that might be something different.

On the brightside, this means a large number of really stupid people in the world will die.
