PSP hardware woes that bad?

I'm thinking about getting a PSP (looks to god damned sexy, IMO to resist), but I heard a few bad things about it. From Dead Pixels to causing hand cramps, as well as a few broken buttons and the like, does anyone who bought one regret it to the slightest extent? If you have a PSP say what type of defect it may have had. It's hard getting a bearing if I should sink $250 on something that may cause a bit of a headache.

Also, in this reguard, anyone hear of possible improved versions (a harddrive or some other thing in it) that would be out in the near future? I don't wanna buy something that may be made inferior in a month (read: the many gameboy versions).

Oh, and maybe price drops on the horizon...

And, please try to leave comparisons out :p

Okay, the PSP has had no defects for me except for one dead pixel I never notice unless I'm looking for it. That's it.

It's awesome, great fun, sexy, versatile, and oh so useful. The screen is bright, the sound is good, the earbuds suck.

Basically--wait for the next Gameboy to be unveiled to make a decision.

Also, those upgraded versions are false rumors.

Dj Yoshi, you would criticize the **** out of any device with a dead pixel before. Why the sudden change of heart?

I would?

I would criticize it if I ever noticed it. But the PSP has so much dust on it at any given time (no matter HOW much you clean it) that you almost never notice just one. A few would be a ***** though.

If there was a dead pixel, you should return it. You didn't pay for a new, defective PSP.

They don't allow it unless there's multiple dead pixels (2 or more). Well not officially. I've heard otherwise from some people.

Trust me, one really isn't that big of a deal for some reason. I never notice it.

However my dad's laptop has one, and good god is that thing annoying.

13 is the offical count (recent EGM). Gah, damn the fact it may have a defect. Why couldn't they make it perfect, it was gonna 1 up god or something? I sincerely hope they fix it soon...

That's dead wrong. You can get it back for 2 or 3, I know people who have.

Even with 1 they should replace it. They sold you damaged/defective goods.
Think while it's still legal.

You probably can, but I don't know of anyone who's tried, and it's just a hassle anyways. It takes a while to ship it off and get one back brand new. So hey, I'll stick with mine for now.

dead pixels are a fact of life with any product that uses a LCD display. LCD monitors definitely have to have a minimum of dead pixels when its brand new before it will be considered defective by the manufacturer, I would not expect the PSP to be any different.

That's bogus, if anything I bought had dead pixels I would take it back and get a new one in a heartbeat. I can't believe people put up with this BS.

My PSP is completely without defects, as is everyone else's I've played with.

The only regret I have right now is not getting the Japanese 1.00 firmware PSP, which has already been cracked to allow SNES and GBA emulators to work on it :D

You could try, and fail. LCD screens almost always have minimum dead pixel counts before they allow returns.

But I don't know if you'd even notice them. I mean you guys really are making a mountain out of a mole hill--it's not that big of a deal.

I understand where your coming from, and frankly, I'd do the same. But you have to understand why they are doing it...

LCD screens are getting very large, and the pixels are getting smaller and smaller. Because of this, dead pixels are unavoidable, and in some cases, the chance of dead pixels can be up to 75%. In addition, as the pixels become smaller, a dead one becomes harder to notice. On the PSP, for example, one dead pixel is near impossible to spot unless you display a full-white image and stare at the screen. They're just that small.

I think mine has 2 dead pixels, but I can only see them when the screen is on and completely black, so I'm not sure if that counts (as the PSP is my first LCD screen ^^;; ). But they are so far off to the left top corner, I really don't mind. I don't see them at all while playing.

Anyhow, I love mine. Since I never got an MP3 player, this is my MP3 player. As my mom put it, it's an iPod with benefits. It plays MP3s, Games, Movies, etc. I love mine. I can't wait to watch FFVII: AC on it! /em screams like a schoolgirl.

What chains were these? Like Target, EB, ect?

Anyway, I was hoping to hear they were wrong, if mine isn't flawless, I want to trade it for one that is.

I'd ask about the warranty, but that is probably online... well, I'll ask anyway, what is it and for how long?

EB.

The warranty is online, and I don't have the time to check right now. :p

Still bogus, if they think dead pixels are normal and unavoidable, they should put their policy on dead pixels directly on the box so people would know. I have used LCD monitors in the past and never run into that. My GBA SP has no dead pixels. My laptop has no dead pixels. They are feeding you a line of BS so you don't even try to return it. If their LCD making process is so bad that 75% of their product ends up defective, they should use a different technology or pay their factory workers better.

It usually does say the dead pixel returns policy somewhere. Most people never even notice the dead pixels, sometimes a only a single colour is dead which makes it very hard to spot.

They give you a policy with every sale.

Also, the SP doesn't use an LCD display I don't think.

Laptops are a different story as their displays aren't nearly as high quality as the PSP's. The PSP's display is like 15-20 ms response, I can't remember which, and regular laptop displays are anywhere from 25 to 40. Not sure if that would affect dead pixels, but don't forget that not EVERY PSP comes with a dead pixel. Not even most.

And not only that, but Sony's dead pixel policy isn't really set in stone...hell, saying it's set in clay is kind of a reach.
