Useless in that sense but has a lot of possibilities

A security officer could remotely and silently signal a dog wearing a haptic suit, giving the animal instructions by simply touching it, which could be useful in rescue work or homeland security applications.

There are countless factors involved in human intercourse and the ability to simulate sex is well beyond our capabilities fullstop.

Besides, if they could artificially simulate sex, the human race would die out.

Not really. The desire to have children is still there.

Yeah I know. But it would probably greatly decrease numbers, especially if it was free. Heck, abortion is doing that.

W00t! Abortion got into the thread!

My thoughts exactly. I read Obi's comment and thought "how exactly can reducing our population growth be a bad thing?"

At least bring it down from this faster-than-exponential curve that we're on right now.

We in the US really don't have to worry about rapid population growth as of yet.
China on the other hand....

our population growth isn't that fast either. which is why we have the problems with social security that we do.

Okay, fine, I forgot about their death rates when I wrote that...

STILL, china has 2 1.3 billion people. WE have only 300 million. I see a 1.7 1 billion person difference here... therefore, rapid population growth would be a problem to China, but not really to us (except over a long time).

[edit] okay, fine... my memory from 6 years ago is crap. But then so was the teacher...

Eh? The PRC's population is 1.3 billion. The U.S. has the third largest population (right after India with its roughly billion inhabitants, as the EU doesn't really count).
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.
