I used to believe that we must fight the future, lest change come without our consent. I was wrong. The truth is that we must embrace the future, for only with change can we remain the same.

Your little string theory is BUNK! The liberal blather of trendy scientists trying to bring down such fathers of science as Einstein and Newton.

I contend that string theory is very far from awesome and in actuality academic garbage.

From what little I understand of string theory, I had always assumed that it was an attempt to combine special relativity with quantum theory, creating some kind of superscientific theory from space that will be raised by a group of agricultural theories to become Supertheory, who fights to protect the average theory from religious persecution.

Discuss superhero theory.

String theorry smells bad. I like normal theory, such as "I am hungry, therefore I cook breakfast" or "When the sun is out, I may get a tan".

Cause and effect. My simple brain can cope with such things. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I think there is something to string theory. It's just that none of the other 20 theorists can agree yet and my guess is one day they will and we will have a single string theory.

The real problem is that there is no feasible experiment in the near future that is capable of even hoping to prove string theory...

It's an interesting theory, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

Theories, by their very nature, cannot be proven. They are hypothetical explanations about observable facts, and no amount of empirical evidence will prove that reason a is why effect b happens. The best you can do is see if a given theory makes correct predictions about so far unobserved phenomena.

yes, string theory is freaking awesome! however it is still just a theory.

Well, then there is no experiment feasible in the near future that will provide evidence supporting string theory.

Theoretical physicists come up with this crap when they are drugged up and tripped out.

Seriously, Stephen Hawking could be on acid and say some whacky physics related principle and explain it away with computer graphics and made up terms just because he's a theoretical physicist.

To be fair, there were only 5 different String Theories, and recently they were all unified into one theory. That's where the 11th dimension came from.
