As good as RotS was (SIGNIFIGANTLY better than the last two in several departments) after flipping through a few chapters of ESB for fun after I got home, it's definately a better movie.

Its sorta reverse order of how they came out... mm no its not... anyways...

IV > V > VI >III > II > I

First 3 got steadily, well not worse but less... second three got better :)

Unlike many, I don't have the same problems with TPM. When I look at the three newest movies, the flaws of AotC and RotS seem far more glaring than the ones I find in TPM. With that being said, my ranking above was based on the theaterical merrits of each film. If I was going to rank them based on which was the most interesting chapter of the two trilogies I might rank RotS number one as it told the darkest, most disturbing, most anticipated, and most interesting part of the story.

RotJ = ESB > RotS > ANH >>> AotC >>> TPM

Return of the Jedi was more of an action movie while The Empire Strikes Back was a complex drama; therefore, I thought their brilliance was relatively equal, although created from different angles.

Return of the Sith had a great combination of action and the drama but still has some of the flaws of the prequels. The movie, though, was awesome overall.

A New Hope had a pretty basic storyline, but it was an amazing film and began the legendary series. Unbeatable.

Attack of the Clones was just strange. The Phantom Menace was horrible.

Baring in mind I think TPM was still a good film, like 7/0...

What nubs said, though I think depending on my mood, Revenge of the Sith might move around between number 1 and number 2.

Overall, I like Return of the Jedi the best. It's always been my favorite, ever since I could talk.

RotS came in after that, but it's more based upon the book than the movie. The book is AMAZING. When I watched the movie yesterday though, I was kinda out of it (I'd stayed up all night working on my costume, and hadn't eaten breakfast or lunch), and sadly, I fell asleep for some of it and had a hard time concentrating. I'm going again tonight though, and I'm sure I'll get a lot more out of it.

After that, I really think they all kind of are equal. I like all of them for different reasons, but don't really like one more than the other. I don't really dislike one more than the other either.

Revenge of the Sith features the worst dialog, acting, and plot of any Star Wars film to date. The only redeeming value was the non-stop action, which seemed to feature more CGI than the previous two films, and that's a bad thing, especially when much of it wasn't even that good. None of the duels came close to the excitment of Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan vs Darth Maul. I haven't read, nor do I care or even have the time right now to read the rest of the thread, but I for one am very irritated with Lucas for ruining something that had so much potential.

Is hard to act in front of a bluescreen for a whole movie? I mean, maybe its hard to put feelings when there are no real settings.

I think that RotS gets artificially inflated into being rank higher because the parts that we knew would be in the film, Anakin's turning, was awesome. Jedi battles were awesome. But this awesomeness was surrounded by some mediocrity. Overall I love every Star Wars film even when I comment on their shortcomings.

I do think TPM is unfairly criticized. If I had to call any SW movie the worst, it would be AotC. That's the only one that had scenes actually angering me, not including changes to OT.

Yeah, duel of the fates was i tihnk the pinnacle of the sabre-fighting, though RotS had some good bits I was glad to see (not surprisingly!!!) There was a few moments where the CG stuff and bad acting was REALLY intrusive, but over all it was fabulous, man i was chocked up at the end. :o

Indeed. The newer singing performance was crap.

It seems that most people either love RotS or hate it. Not many in the middle.
