Difference between film & Digital Versions Of Revenge of the Sith
2005-05-20, 12:58 AM #1
I heard Yoda talking about extra scenes in the digital release of Revenge of the Sith.

I've been wondering.

What are the extra scenes in the digital release?
(as opposed to the film version)

Ani links to this information?

Dear Christ,

Please make Lucas stop. One can only take so many re-remasters of the same film before the series is bled dry.

Honestly, I don't know what the difference is, nor do I care.

I recently read a USA Today article about how movie theaters are one of the last establishments that exclusively rely on analog technology (projectors), and how efforts to switch the projectors over to digital have been largely unsuccesful. Interestingly enough, it was mentioned that George Lucas is a major proponent of installing digital projectors in all theaters. It also said that Lucas plans to re-re-re-remaster the OT in 3D, as 3D movies are much easier to do with digital projectors. After reading that, I honestly wanted to stab Lucas, repeatedly.

You've got the wrong idea.

Because of all the film processing and everything a cut of the film has to be assembled for a film version some time before the film hits theaters. Whereas with digital, the process is eliminated giving Lucas much more time to edit the film. Basically the film version isn't the final version of the movie ("unfinished" if you like).

That's a crappy excuse. I think it was at another forum I read a post by someone who saw film and digital versions already and noticed no difference in content. He did notice a difference in quality.

Not really, if anything it gives Lucas less of an excuse if the movie feels quickly thrown together (as AotC did in places).

No difference other than image quality then? Can anyone else confirm this?

Ok then, I'll change the subject over to the remastering of the Original Trilogy in 3D.

I heard this too somewhere but what the hell does that even mean? For the movie to be watched with 3d-glasses?

No difference between IMAX, digital, or regular theatrical version.

Yes, I saw it three times opening night.

Not sure if you got my meaning. If he actually released two versions at the same time and the reason was the had to rush the film print while they could take more time with the digital, that would be lame. Personally, I think Lucas needs deadlines or he'll never finish anything. Hell, there's already three versions of each of the original trilogy films.

Oh no, I got your meaning perfectly well. I just think it's a very handy tool to be able to produce an up to the minute theatrical presentation.

Of course I agree with that but don't you find the notion that he might release different theaterical versions simultaneously offensive? Not that it happened but your initial post seemed to excuse the possibility. If releasing a finished product is the issue, postpone it.

And damn all of those other movies that release a DVD with extras!

You're just looking for something to ***** about. More scenes == good.

No I'm not. More scenes does equal good. Releasing two theaterical versions with different content is bad. And since it didn't happen, I'm not *****ing about anything. I'm discussing a concept with a friend.

I can see what you're saying, cynics would suggest Lucas is trying to get many fans to see the movie twice, not hard to see where such a notion would come from. Lucas could've released the digital version first, and then the film version weeks later, but that would've caused an uproar.
