Can you tell the difference between a kangaroo and a whale?

I for one can.

To summarize just for you lazy people like me, it's the Japanese justifying whaling by stating that it's okay, because Australian's eat kangaroo's.

For those not in the know, kangaroo's are far from endangered. They are considered a pest in many parts of Australia, and there are more around now than two hundred years ago; thank dams and farming for that. If they were endangered, like many of Australia's species are, then they wouldn't be eaten.

That's 'wack', eating an endangered species. The international community should be outraged...

I always thought whales are endangered. I wonder if this was proved in their "scientific research"

Maybe they're not eating the endangered whales. Besides, doesn't the world have enough fat, worthless mammals anyway. ;)

Kudos to anyone who recognized who I quoted from.

In all reality, there is no truly "humane" way to kill an animal for food. Being killed is painful, yes?

Not sure if thy are endangered, but the Japanese hunting of whales (they think they are doing it at a sustainable rate) is based on a very inaccurate study conducted some years ago that assumed the whales reporduced much faster than they actually do.

For the whale I'm sure at least. Now, there are several ways to kill a human without them feeling pain...

All in favor of research on non-painful whale killing methods?

I've always thought taking whales for "scientific purposes" was odd. I guess they could be trying to figure out what kind of sauce goes best with whale meat.

But that whole kangaroo argument is just daft. The whales (Humpback I think) they are using are endangered, while kangaroos are everywhere. You can't drive anywhere near where I live without seeing a mob of them grazing in a paddock.

This is about as dumb as the people that tried to outlaw fishing just because "they thought the fish might have been feeling pain when the hook slashed through their mouth and gills..."

If the whales they eat aren't endangered I think they might as well eat them.

Mmmm. Whale.

Comparing it to kangaroos is a little silly, though. Whales aren't a major pest. 'cept for the white whale... Ahar. I stab at thee! I stab at thee!

I think it's a little...risky to start hunting whales now that they've just crossed the "endangered" threshold back to "not endangered."
