design, design, design.

Creating the world is the best part. The details, skinning, modeling, etc, just aren't as... satisfying. Though they are necessary to achieve a satisfactory result...

The overall act of creation is the best part.

I like the testing and tweaking phase..

The fact that people with similar sentiment also visit is one of the greatest things I see in this community. There's a lot less of this recently however :(.

Modeling and animation.
Definatley.
Programming is also good too. I think Programming is cooler because you can make entire worlds...err...basics of worlds in a short/long wait.

I dont know why, but animation and modeling has always appealed.

I've always tried "what if the character held that gun that way?" when I model.

Character design, concept art, world design, voice acting.

I prefer the game design itself. Just in general. The concept of the game, the gameplay direction...maybe the visual style that goes along with it, too.

level design hands down.

Somewhere between programming and level design, I voted level design. I love it when a world comes together, you get this good feeling inside. A feeling of pride. You get it with programming as well, but it's different.

Programming. As much as a pain in the *** OpenGL proved to be sometimes, it was very very rewarding to see all that code be made into something seen. And as Emon said, it is a pride thing.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

My thoughts exactly.

All those little touches that make or break the atmosphere - wether it be ambient sounds, moody music, lights, special effects...

The first thing that grabs my attention in a game is the atmosphere - above level design, art, graphics, and everything else. If there is no atmosphere, I won't like it.
The music industry is a cruel and shallow money trench where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Modeling/animation. Probably because I suck at everything else.

Since making personal skins and sound mods, or modifying simple .ini values is the extent of my game-making. So, skinning and sound design.

Concept design is fun too, plotting a character, their clothing, and equipment out on paper. I probably could sit down and learn how to use an editor. I mean, JED wasn't that hard, even though I never released anything.
If it breaks, you get to keep both pieces.

Level/World Editing/creating atmosphere... usually. I always wish to be multitalented though. :(

I REFUSE TO VOTE IN THIS POLL!

There was no "story-writing" option :p

I'm a fan of the step one stuff: storyboarding, sketching rough game mechanic designs, general level design, etc. Mostly because it's what I'm good at. I respect the people who can program it all though. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a computer/video game.

Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Architectural design and Texturing/Skinning are tied as my favorite--but only if the latter indicates the actual creation of textures, and not the application of them. Because *that* is one of the suckiest aspects of it.

Would scripting fall under programming?

I generally enjoy modelling/animation most, even though I tend to be better at scripting.

Hence my obsession with weapon mods ;)

i like the programming part the best. I always do c++ and although i use visual c++ to compile, i program in notepad most of the time. It's really amazing turning a simple txt file into somthing huge like a video game.

Well it looks like I'm the only Skinning vote...
Music is fun too.
nope.

There isn't one particular option I'd vote.

What makes editing worthwhile for me is seeing an idea of mine come to life, and in most cases this will require all manner of practical techniques.

I love the level design. Not very good at the graphics side and my programming has a tendency to backfire. :D

Programming simply because I lack much of an imagination so I'm not good at level design. If I can see it, I can make it, otherwise I just stick to programming.

Design. IE writing the structure, the classes, the components .. but not doing the grunt work n actually coding them together.

Programming, AI in particular. Next would be level design/creation, since I'm not bad at it.

Wow, this has to be one of the GREATEST polls to ever surface on the Discussion Forum! :p

Seriously, Level Design. I love creating my own little world, especially when it does whatever I want it to do! ;)

What Geb said.
I've come up with all sorts of game concepts that I couldn't hope to begin at this point... Perhaps some day I'll become a professional game designer so I can do something with these ideas.
I'm just a little boy.
