ok, i asked my boyfriend, and some random guy at work; but i want to tripple check with massassi, so here we go.

i bought some strange black and white film. This strange film's package asks it to be developed with C-41 processing, whitch is color processing. first question: does B and W with color processing make sence?

so anyway, i proceeded to take pictures with this roll of film. (i've been wokrign on a huge art project that took upwards of 40 people to help me complete and took all smester in my free time). basically, i could repete every picture on there, but i would feel i've waisted so much time and effort on these pictures, i wouldnt want to do them over.

well, i finally finished the hole roll, and i sent it off to this company : www.photoworks.com . whom is not just some internet company, my dad has been sending his amature photos off to them for 15 years (at least), and anyway, there the only people i know who would make my photos on 5x7's, 4x6's, CD, web (under pass code), and slides. i sent them off to them last week, but yesterday thay returned the film saying "thay could not process B&W with color prcessing". And thay didnent send me any more explnation. i could try and call the #'s on the package for customer service or you all could point me to other options. (please?)

the 2 people i've already talked to about it tell me to get the 4x6'es and the CD done at Walmart... then send the negatives i get back off to the company for slides and what ever elce. but since i've put so much time into this project, i dont trust walmart.

arg! give me suggestions!

Ive seen faux b&w film before (Kodak makes some : BW400CN), back when I took photgraphy my teacher warned us about it. Your best bet would be to find a local photography shop, check the phone book, and get them to develop the film then go from there. I'm used to making my own prints, but if you dont have the facilities to do that dont bother. But before you do anything you may want to call that number and get whatever information they can offer about the film, would probably be a good idea.

Another idea would be to look up the film online to see what they suggest, Kodak's site has processing info for their film, so I'd imagine whatever brand you got has something similar.

Good luck.

Then its probably the film I mentioned in my first sentence, in which case you can take it to wal*mart for processing just as you would any other color film. Thats is...if you trust them.

Yes, C-41 is the standard for all places like Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Target and mom and pop shops alike. The place you sent it to could have probably processed it, but didn't see that it was indeed C-41. I used to work in a photo lab and we processed this type of film every day.

*resident photo expert walks up*

dont know how i missed this one.

yes B&W in colour chemistry makes sense, if you really want me to explain how, i can.

on to your other question. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT USE PHOTOWORKS!!! This company used to be called Seattle Film Works. What they did was take old movie flim(yes like they shoot in hollywod) trim it down a bit and pack it into 35mm canisters. then they'd pack that film send it out, with a note on the box saying "send it back to us for processing and we'l give you a free roll of film!" too bad the film is expired, which means colour shifting.

on top of that they run crappy processes which they barely keep in control. if you send in the same negative to them twice for reprints, neither set of prints will look the same as the one before it. this is not quality.

Your best bet, really, to take it to a place like wal-mart. especially if its got a newer machine.(ask them how long they've had thier machine and if its under 2y, your golden) 99% of stores with photo processing can produce 5x7's and 8x10's even 8x12's in some cases. chances are if you have the photoCD option, you can get 5x7's.

once again i dont reccomend ANYTHING from PhotoWorks. wal-mart will probably have an "overnight" processing option, which if i recall correctly, they do with fuji. you can send your negs to them(doesnt matter if its kodak film. its the same process either way) and they can make your slides for you.

i hope that was helpful Elana. any other questions, dont be afraid to ask.
