...so they opened fluorescant light bulbs, exposing them to mercury vapor and filled them with some kind of oil? How was the oil heated? What? Stupid reporters. Stupid kids, too.

I bet that third person was sitting in a bulky, black chair watching and laughing while the two other fought...

I once took 80 glow sticks and poured them all out on a table. It was so sweet but it felt a little woozy after that.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Where's that rotfl smilie when you need it?

I guess using fluorescant lights and petroleum is a lot better film technique than creating CG lightsabers on the computer.

Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

Only poorly constructed lightsaber 'splode :P I suspect they didn't focus their force energies enough when making them.

I mean really, what was their purpose? They added gasoline to a fluorescent light tube.... what does that do? Does it glow? If so, that's pretty awesome. But it sounds to me like it'd just be a tube of accelerant.

Sounds awesome, until you clank the tubes together and they explode.

I'm so tempted to print the comments on this thread off and post it anonymously to them.

Buy some flowers, dip them in petroleum, and take them to those people along with the printed version of this thread. I'm sure they would appreciate.

If it were turned on, it would likely cause 600 volts of AC to be shorted to ground through the gasoline, which, in the enclosed space of the tube, would promply explode.

I'm still trying to figure out:

1. Why they thought glass tubes wouldn't break.

2. Why they thought filling them with gasoline would do anything for filming?

The best way to make a lightsaber blade for dueling or filming is using thin steel or aluminum tubing and filling it with hard, expandable foam, and weighting the handle. Much better than wood or plastic.

That's pretty cool, they're acting out the final duel of the movie. Will both of them become Vaders then?

Fluorescant lights have transformers that step the voltage up to 400-600 VAC. That's what the buzzing sound is in some (poorly manufactured) lights, it's the transformer. Of course I was assuming it would be hooked up to a transformer. If you just plugged it into the wall it would short 120 VAC at an even higher current, still causing the gasoline to explode.

Well, at least they weren't using real lightsabers! Those could be dangerous if handled by untrained professionals.
