Throughout the past year on the Spike channel, I've been able to watch alot of Deep Space Nine. Despite the fact I was a big of TNG back when it was on, for some reason I never really got into DS9. However now after this past year, things are a little different. In fact, I found myself enjoying a great deal more DS9 episodes than TNG. I think the storylines are much more involving, and the characters had the chance for tremondous growth and development. Dukat has to be one of the best Trek villains, easily. So for any Trekkies who happen to inhabit these boards, what are your thoughts/opinions on DS9?

DS9 was good seasons 3.5 - 7.

DS9 rocked, but I'll always have fond memories of the ST:TNG from my childhood...

I believe DS9 was far better than TNG, the build up to the end along with the darker story lines made it much more compelling...

plus all the spy stuff, section 31, the dark secrets behind some of the more questionable actions of the federation in war, it just seemed more... real...

yeah, the first few seaons kinda sucked... i mean... how many stories can you make that involve a station... it does not move... so it does not go anywhere.

when they got into the War and brough the defiant into the show it got moer interesting because now they could actually travel places and have more then four people in ship instead of cramming them into a shuttle.

the war defintly showed the federation in a diffrent light then the peace loving hippies spreading the love around the galaxy... it showed they can fight, and they can fight dirty when they need too.

it was nice to see the federation being agressive when it's usually so passive... my favorite episodes include the one where they assembled a large fleet to re-take DS9 from the dominion before they dismanteled the minefeild at the mouth of the wormhole, if they dismantled the mine feild the dominion would be able to bring in massive ammount of re-inforcments and it'd be the end.

and I also liked the episode where the federation mounted an invasion of the cardassian homeworld to put an end to the war, Damar taking advise from a former bajoran maquis and even taking a page from their book and starting a Cardassian rebbellion against the Dominon...

I LVOE the war.

Never really liked DS9. I liked TNG and Voyager though.

Never seen it. I've heard it's pretty similar to Babylon 5, which is one of my favorite series. Is it as plot-heavy as B5? Should I check it out?

And here I thought everyone hated Voyager with a burning passion. Though admittedly, if I had to chose a series I liked the least overally, it'd have to be Voyager.

In any case, I too have become more interested in DS9 after being able to watch it on Spike TV. It has good characters and such.

I want to watch DS9 more, but I wish it would come on later than 10 freaking am. Around 6pm would be great.

And that, essentially sums up my feelings on DS9. I love it. I just wish I was rich so I could go out and buy the boxed seasons.

Yes, while I love Trek, I'm pretty angry at them asking 110 bucks for every single damn season of all the shows. Ok, didn't they have the twenty some episodes per season the other shows did? 100 bucks is just waaaaay too much for me.

I started watching DS9 about this time last year on Spike, and loved it. I agree with the previous person who said it was on too early, I never get to watch it during the school year because of that. Now it's the summer again, I can catch up on my viewing! ;)

TNG is great as well, and there will never be a Captain quite like Jean-Luc Picard, but I have to admit that DS9 has the more appealing storyline and special effects.

Agreed. But Sisko wasn't that bad either. He has that "don't **** with me or the Federation or I shall ram my phaser up your ***" attitude. Which I like.

I'm a little divided on this. I completely love DS9 and how it actually had a plot line across half the show. However, TNG just holds a special place in my heart.

Voyager seemed OK to me, some of the episodes (Year of Hell) we completely awesome, then some of them were completely worthless. Same with Enterprise.

I never got a chance to watch a lot of TOS so I can't rate it.

TNG=DS9 (in their own, separate, ways) > Voyager = Enterprise

Jack: "Why not!"

DS9 = best star trek series ever.

sorry, enterprise never did it for me. but i am waiting for a DS9 movie.

Same here. The later seasons of DS9 were awesome, but I grew up with and loved TNG. The story in DS9 was so much more involved and continuing, though.

if they did a DS9 movie, where woul they do it? would you prefer they go back into the middle of the series or continue it from the final episode? cause if thast the case, I think Ezri left, sisko is dead, kira is the new commander of the station... Odo left to join his people and worf took some position as a klingon ambassador or something... (even tho the TNG movies still found a way to bring him back...)

I think a movie with voyager would be good as well... there is lots of unanswered question, what will happen to the maquis crew members, will the charges against them be dropped? what about the future anti-borg technology they brought with them to the alpha quadrant... what about everything!

I just hope we never get a movie with the enterpise crew... don't know how that would work out.

Sisko is actually with the prophets, so he could come back in some wierd way.

If they do another movie, I would prefer them to do something with Riker, Troi and the Titan.

Here's something I never quite understood about the TNG cast compared with the series/movies - why did Troi's character change so much? In TNG she was clearly a betazoid, kind of cold, almost unfeeling - her telepathy and strong intuition concerning others emotions was obvious. But in Generations (even though I thought it was the best Star Trek movie ever) and onwards, she seemed totally different, more human even. She no longer seemd to be a "counselor" she just sort of tagged along for the ride, took a few shots at people, made a few lame jokes and waggled her breasts around. What did they do to her character??!!

I was pissed when Spike took DS9 out of their primetime lineup and replaced it with CSI, bleh. They ran DS9 maybe a month in primetime, not even enough to play through the whole series once. There's still a few episodes I've never seen because of that.

It runs during the day now, when I'm either not awake, at classes, or at work. I think I was able to catch it on like once in the last year...
