Who here knows the most about Star Wars???
2005-05-29, 10:34 PM #1
I'm only asking because i'm curious if it's ever been discussed by George Lucas what the episodes 7, 8, and 9 are about. Has he ever said what they are about, or has their only been speculation??...if so, what's been speculated....?

I know he's said ROTS is the last episode he's doing, but do u think there's a possibility he'll do anymore? I'm curious as hell to know if he'll finish it, and if so, how exactly the stories will end.

My sisters finance was saying he wrote all the way to script 9 but never published them into books, refusing to do that. now i'm curious as to what he did with the other chpts. someone who's got knowledge on this, please fill me in. and use spoiler tags in case other people who dont know, dont want to know....

help me out people, i'm curious! thnx

That is like the... worst question you could possibly ask on Massassi. Trust me, you'll see what I'm talking about soon. Very soon...

I think free meant "Who here knows the most about Star Wars???". Which should get a number of "OMG I DO" and "GL raped my child hood" comments.

Well, according to the Extended Universe, Leiah and Han have 2 kids who are uber force sensative twins. Luke puts together the Jedi Academy, some emperor clones are put together, some luke clones too and some other world-ending machines are made, etc etc. That is, of course, according to the EU. My guess is lucas would have had a completelly different appraoch to it.

Urgh, EU. It's all just fan fiction to me, even if approved by Lucas or not.

I have all the EU books, including the books for the kids like Young Jedi Knights. Kevin J Anderson is the greatest writer ever of EU, far superior to Michael Stackpole and others. All of Kevin J Anderson's books are brand new, completely original and uses absolutely no references to any other books. He never reuses other people's materials, especially Lucas', and all his ideas are original and incredibly well written.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

But... but... The point is that they're supposed to be interconnected! It's supposed to be a singular universe with things going on!

Unless you mean that he thinks up his own stories but still ties them in...

Please god tell me you are being sarcastic.

Timothy Zahn's books beat everything else hands down. They were incredibly detailed, intriguing, interesting, and downright ADDICTING.

Anderson's? At best, it was unoriginal. He ripped off basic concepts for nearly every book. Not to mention his books just seem to drag on and on.

The absolute WORST expanded universe book I ever read was ...

Children of the Freaking Jedi

.. I had nightmares after reading that monstrosity of a novel it was so bad. The woman who wrote it was obsessessed with certain words, liek she'd talk about "Anakin's grubby, little hands" over, and over,
AND OVER!!!!!!!!

Yes, a complete work of fiction in relation to what really happened in the Universe. (Kidding; we all know that there are historically accurate parts, ect)

To me the EU (especially the god-awful NJO) never really happened.

Why would he know what 7-9 would be about, the only thing he knew about the prequels was Anakin became Darth Vader, and then he claims that Anakin died in E3. :p

Episodes 7 8 and 9 were condensed into RotJ. The emporer wasn't supposed to actually appear until episode 9, but Lucas decided that would drag out the story for far too long, and he shortened it into one movie.

There is no Episode 7, 8, or 9.

And the EU doesn't count.

I tend to think that as long as he's making money off of it, Lucas will continue to put out new Star Wars material, whether he just gives a script idea to someone or is actively involved in the production.

Egads!

So he changed his mind and left the story open allowing the EU writers to fill up 789. Whats wrong with that?

Bloody brilliant post, Katt. By having the resources to decipher that message readily available, I have just proven myself to be your brother in geekhood. I'd rather not become even more of a geek, so I won't mention that a couple of characters are slightly wrong but... oh crap!

It seems to be turning into a rather tense topic, but this EU stuff intrigues me. I'd generally throw in with the Timothy Zahn faction, but I must say I much enjoyed the anthology books as well. (Tales from Jabba's Palace, etc.) Those and the X-wing series as well. It was nice to get away from the main characters for a while. I've not yet delved into this New Jedi Order stuff, but as long as it doesn't turn out to be another "adventures of the week", it can't be that bad, can it?

As for Darksaber- Interesting concept, but gah. And killing off Crix Madine after I went through all that trouble braving the perils of the Imperial Detention Center to save him from certain doom at the hands of his colleagues-turned-captors... I didn't much care for "The New Rebellion" either... Especially when the plot seemed to follow the same line of Darksaber. (Complex rigmarole of an evil plan turns out to be ultimately easy to thwart because it's just too damn complicated to work.)

As for actually STAYING ON TOPIC, (wow, what a concept) I have faith that George will do Star Wars for as long as he enjoys it and as long as it pays, but I doubt we'll see any further episodes, at least out of him. But still, the mixed messages- I saw an article dated early 1999 where he had mentioned the sequel trilogy like it was certainly going to happen. In a later interview (2001 or so) he said he probably wouldn't, becuase he wanted to take a short hiatus after the perquel trilogy was done, that he'd probably be in his 70s by the time the sequel trilogy was finished, and that he didn't want to spend the rest of his life on Star Wars. Yet recently, here he is again saying things that hint on more material.

There were mumblings years back that maybe Lucasfilm would just make Timothy Zahn's trilogy, the series that started it all, into movies. Interesting idea if you discount the fact that all the actors are a bit too old now to be made into convincing 5-years-older versions of the classic trilogy characters. On the plus side, Pierce Brosnan and Gary Oldman would make a pretty good Thrawn and Karrde (respectively) if you ask me.

Okay, that's enough of that. Let's hope this Brosnan/Oldman crap doesn't start a flame war greater than Hades itself.

Brosnan... never thought of that.. I can see it...
I always saw Jeff Bridges, "The Dude", as the perfect Joruus C'Boath. And who can say no to Ray Liotta as Niles Ferrier?

-Barbara Hambly's books, "Children of the Jedi" and "Planet of Twilight" suck ***, as does her writing style. The only good part about any of them is the indocrination scene in CotJ and Dzymm in PoT.

It's been a long time since I've read any EU material. I read about three books into the NJO, and it's been nothing since then. I'm not about to finish, seeing as how they prolonged it (I'm guessing quite unecessarily) to 20-some books? The best were easily the Zhan trilogy. I remember reading Darksaber, The New Rebellion, and there were a few others, and coming away very unimpressed. God, Darksaber was quite awful, hadn't thought about it in a while. The anthology books varied in quality, Tales from Jabba's Palace I remember liking. I think Tales From Coruscant (if thats the title) was the worst. Tales from the Bounty Hunters, now that I thought was really good. Of course, I read that when I was a kid, now the idea of IG-88 actually "being" the Death Star bugs me. Overall, from what I can recall though, the Thrawn books were the best.

originally han died at the end of jedi and everything wasn't as happy in the original script, this set up 7, 8, and 9... since solo lives and all that his originals ideas are mostly scrap...

ROTS is the LAST STAR WARS movie EVER.

Don't get your hopes up, Lucas is never going to do anything again besides directing a couple star wars tv show episodes which I am sure will be like a Star Trek type setup since that formula obviously works. And Lucas being the cash cow he is don't expect it to be anything innovative then besides your basic fan-based weekly tv show...

I am just not expecting anything, come on if he did make these sequels the hype would be just like the PT hype and Lucas would let us down with a lackluster trilogy that will be re-re-re-released 30 times on VHS only, so that way when he does want it to be DVD we have to rebuy it and ultimately it will never have the lasting effect the OT did...

Lando died, NOT HAN. Lando died at the end when the Death Star explodes before he escapes. You can read the original script, after the Death Star blows up, Han "knows" it and says "Lando..." knowing that it's gone. That's why there is htat line "I have a feeling like I'm never gonna see her again." and why the fire explodes, then the Falcon came out. Originally the Falcon wasn't supposed to shoot out after the fire.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Hahaha...you're probably talking about the "A", "E", and "C", I'm guessing. Well, I learned it about 6 years ago, and in the time since then, I've modified a couple of the characters to make them faster to write. Tell me THAT ain't pathetic :p
