Simple question... Which program can I download to use to compress a 800 MB Mpeg file to a smaller file size?

go to your start menu > programs > accesories > windows movie maker.

import the mpeg and then throw it on the timeline at the bottom, go to file, save movie and then select your quality (go to other to select very high quality ones (cause the default 3 are kinda low)) and then there ya go... save away. will work on any windows PC with windows media player. at least a somewhat current one.

I recommend AutoGK for an encoder and XviD as the codec, assuming your source is MPEG2.

Since you didnt specify a platform, Mencoder or FFMPEG.
