I try hard at Counter-Strike.
2005-05-30, 11:11 PM #1
Today, I was bored, so I did a comparison in the skill level difference between Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike Source. I found that Counter-Strike: Source is exceptionally harder than Counter-Strike. In most servers in regular Counterstrike, my average scored would be 2 kills to every one death. In most servers on Counter-Strike: Source, I would get 1 kill to every 1 death, or less. 1:1 was probobly the best game I got. I don't know why I'm posting this, I just thought this would be some interesting information for you.
As you can see, my score the in CSS game was 5 kills and 9 deaths. My score in the Regular Counter-Strike game was marginally better at 23 kills and 9 deaths.
I did this comparison on the same map with the same team.

The only CS that I've ever played is CS original.

It's okay. I really suck at CS. Much more than you.

I usually get around a 2:1 kill ratio in CS: Source. I remember a few years ago when I used to play CS original, I would sometimes get a ratio of 3:1

thats odd i got significantly better in CSS

its alot faster paced then the original I will say that, so maybe your not being offensive enough
2005-05-31, 8:45 AM #7
I think CS original is faster paced but easier. I suck bad at CS:S but get a good 2:1 on normal.

I'm very good at 1.6, but not so great at Source. The fact that I don't use a super computer really hurts performance in CSS. I don't think CSS is really fair for judging skill, anyways all the really good players are still playing 1.6 :P

Hardware makes a really huge difference in Source, and I don't like playing with something that holds me back :P 1.6 is where the level ground is at, stick with it.

I suck at source. That is all.
nope.

I'm fairly good at CZ and CS:S. Haven't played the original in a long time tho.

I gotta play one of them with you guys.

Gotta get a server going again.

Actually, most of the best players have migrated to CSS, and it's much much better as far as real skill goes. The per-pixel hit boxes are awesome. The only bad thing is you can definitely see a change in lag as you jack up the quality.

And I would say get a server going again, but some people would accuse others of hacking without any proof.

That is the exact reason why I don't play much CS anymore over the net. While it's not quite as bad as the zone was w/ JK, it still ruins the fun to have a bunch of immature players whining and b****ing b/c I kiled them fair and square.

I only play CS over lan, so if anyone does that, everyone can get up and go kick that whiner's a**.
2005-05-31, 10:57 AM #15
we should try to get an all massassi match either old school cs or CSS preferably, it would kick ***

We used to have a CSS server for a short while run by Shintock.
nope.

I love how the vast majority of CS players claim ratios of at least 2:1. Especially given that it is statistically impossible for more than half the players to have a ratio better than 1:1. How many of you are exagerating? :p ;)
2005-05-31, 11:48 AM #19
Eh, I've played Source on a pretty craptacular computer, one of the lowest specs you can play it on... Got 20 FPS, not great, but it still didn't affect me as much as 20 FPS in original CS did.

For nwo though, I play source every day at least on my "supercomputer". Quite good.

i usually pull around a 1:1 ... sometimes i get 2:1 very rare occasions (or playing against bots) it can get much higher

Most of the people I know claim 5:1 ratios are decent. Then again, there's a reason they're in CPL :p

But you'd be surprised. A lot of people who suck at CS don't want it to get out that they play ;)

The funny thing for me is that I play halo alot. Since the net code sucks, you have to lead almost 3 player widths, sometimes more. I tried playing CSS and I couldn't hit anything. Once I finally got off the habit of leading, if you put the cross hair on the guy and shoot, you actually kill him.

Actually, Yoshi, Source has some pretty atrocious hitboxes too. Sure, the 1.6 ones aren't "per pixel accurate", but in Source, the goddamn hitboxes trail behind the model. It's absolutely ridiculous.

1.6, is IMHO, a far better gauge of skill. The only thing that impresses me about Source is the surround sound - by god it's awesome.

There's really a huge range of players in CS. I bet that the majority of awful CS players don't have to patience to read and post on message boards :D Depending on who I'm playing with, my ratio will usually vastly exceed 2:1 :P Ask half the people here that think I cheat ;)

My skill level in CS:S fluctuates wildly from day to day, server to server. Sometimes it's all I can do to maintain a 1:2 ratio, while other times, I have been known to get about 4:1.

This is how I am. I've been off lately, strugging to get a 1:2 or 1:1 ratio, where a few weeks ago I was at 2:1-4:1 for quite a while.

What you're experiencing is LAG sir. I played with my friend ik over a LAN, and he of course owned me, but I'll tell you right now the hitboxes don't trail :P.

Generally my CS ratio is around 1:1, usually under though. It can get up to 2:1 though if I have a good team. (read: stacked) My DoD ratio is a pretty solid 1:1 though.

I would just like to stress that Valve's anti-cheat system is BS as it still allows hacking tards to get through very easily. Considering some little jerk on T's was able to turn on a CT skin hack and ended up killing me. I know I wasn't just mistaking things either, the Seal skin is hard to mistake and friendly fire was off.

Yoshi, what makes you think I only play over the internet? I -used- to play league/tournament for a very long time, on both LAN and the internet. I'm very much sure that something is seriously wrong with the Source hitboxes. As for skill? Well, I'm obviously not as good as I was before, but I played with a team that made it to IM, and scrimmed frequently with a CAL-M squad. I think that says a HELL of a lot more than playing with some forum regulars in a PUBLIC, OPEN game. Trust me, it gets a hell of alot harder when you shut out players, who even being fairly above average, wouldn't make it to CAL-IM.

Trust me, I've scrimmed with Cal-I's. And who says I play with forum regulars in public open games? Or are you even talking about me?

Hell, I don't even know what you're talking about. I'm not saying you're not skilled--I'm talking to others at Massassi. I've only played with you a couple times, but you seem a-okay to me. :p

The last time you played with me I had just gotten Source. It was a BIG adjustment. Not to mention 150+ lag.

And I didn't say I was at their skill level. I'm just saying I've played with them. I'd probably struggle in Cal-M, probably Cal-O this year with all the big teams switching over to CSS.

For the thing about everone can't have a 2:1 ratio, I used to play back when 1.4 was new and was normally 1:4 or so. I exclusively used the TMP, and would occasionally get awesome killing sprees, but breaking 1:1 wasn't common.

I did have fun, played at an internet cafe with friends. Was really good at being the first person in a rush so I was a decent bullet magnet while my good teammates mopped up.

As for cheating, no other game has as much amazing, powerful and basic-rights-infringing anti-cheating as original Counter-Strike. CS also spawned the most amazing cheating methods including rendering engine hacks, DLL loaders and hooks. It was (and I'd hope still is) a beautiful dance between the anti-cheating measures and stuff like OGC as they try to one-up eachother. So yeah, just because cheating is still rampant, doesn't mean the anti-cheating stuff sucks; it's tougher than for any other game, it's just that the cheats are absolutely brilliant (compared to the complexity of cheats for other games).
