True, with so many powerful search engines and people referring people I guess how active the games are is of little relevance, though I don't believe any game in the JK series is even produced anymore so those numbers might go down gradually (especially if you keep munching on poor souls
![:(](../../smileys/frown.gif)
). Massassi will still be the first place I check and refer people to when the situation calls for it.
My clan also once had a web program called "JK War Zone" where a user could register and put up the IP and type of game, but like the MPG, it caught on fire and burned to a crisp as nobody wanted to use something so web based...
However, the JK community did beg the developers of XFire (
http://www.xfire.com) messenger for several months to get support for JK1 and we finally got it. (It was already supported JO/JA). Assuming that they don't get wiped out by Yahoo's frivolous lawsuit, the contact lists are ring based, meaning that you can see your friend's friends when they are playing. I've had a few people add me through XFire who were friends of my friends when they noticed that I was playing JK, so it does work. The down sides are not everyone's willing to use the "new" program so people are playing JK and nobody even knows, XFire is listing everyones IP, not just the hosts, one per every several seconds, making it very difficult to join. One click joining isn't supported (It seems only LucasArts and Microsoft know how to do this with JK), and XFire in-game (in-game instant messaging) isn't supported either, making it hard to get a player's attention to get the IP of a game (Bazman (xfire staff) said that they would work on this, but I don't know what the 8-bit palleted graphics/16-bit accelerated graphics would limit them to).
Unfortunately, to the best of my knowledge, the only JK players left limit themselves to #nar and #jk (and probably #massassi too if you're Brittish) on holonet.org.
Needless to say, XFire and IRC are still better than what remains of Zone and GameSpy as far as finding "decent" games. I believe Severen made a script that broadcasts your IP and gametype to the chat, the only downside with this idea is it seems that people #massassi don't get along well with people from #nar/#jk and vice versa. (something to do with a conflict of map developers).
