The invention of paper

I'm told that paper was invented around 105 A.D. But don't we have literary works from way before that? Written word has been around for long before that date.
So what did people use to write on? I know the Chinese used silk and other types of fabrics to write on. I'm curious about other parts of the world.

Genesis 22:2-5 - And God said unto Abraham "You must kill your son, Isaac." And Abraham said "What? I can't hear you! You'll have to speak into the microphone." And God said "Check, check, check, check. Jerry, can you pull the high end out. I'm getting some hiss up here."

I used to believe that we must fight the future, lest change come without our consent. I was wrong. The truth is that we must embrace the future, for only with change can we remain the same.

Papyrus is not paper.

The word paper derives from the word papyrus.

They are not the same thing.

The egyptians wrote on papyrus, thus making it their paper.

Yes, papyrus was one of their means for written communication, thus making it their paper. Duh. But they weren't making paper, they were making papyrus.
It's not like they did anything special - everyone was using something as their paper long before the invention of our paper.

Yes, I do love the italics tag.

Ancient Pheonicians used to write on the backs of dolphins and send them to the various islands of Pheonicaria. Then they all died out.

The Dolphins, not the Pheonicians, that is.

Actually I believe they were making paper out of papyrus. People have just corupted the use of the word to include paper made out of papyrus.
